How to Craft a Bird Nest with Speckled Eggs
As you have may been a witness to these past few weeks…I have a fetish.
Moss.
Moss and eggs.
Moss, eggs and birds nests.
(Okay, that’s three fetishes.)
That is why this project is so perfect for me. The best part is that I spent so little money at Jo-Ann Crafts to get such a dramatic impact on my front porch.
I shared a Forsythia Wreath I made for my Spring Porch Reveal yesterday and the wreath featured my Bird’s Nest.
They Bird Nests are so incredibly to make and once you start you will be making them for everywhere in your home.
Here are the supplies I used:
I purchased a large grapevine nest. This one is large – about 6″ wide. I also purchased a bag of reindeer moss (LOVE that stuff!) and a small package of speckled pastel eggs. (LOVE these, also) Did I mention above I have some fetish issues?
It took me all of 5 minutes to put this nest together…
I cut a sprig of variegated silk ivy into smaller 3-5″ pieces and
attached them around the edge of the nest with my low temp glue gun.
Already pretty, huh?
Next, I glued on a few pieces of forsythia which had fallen out
of the stems when I was making my wreath.
Using my reindeer moss, I used smaller pieces and glued them
randomly around the edge, as if the moss was growing onto the nest.
So fetishly cute! 😀
I needed a little “nest” in my nest for the eggs…so I filled it with
larger clumps of moss, also glued into place.
Finally, the speckled eggs were glued into place, as well.
I tell ya’ – easy crafts like this make my heart go pitter-patter.
This is the kind of decor I will leave out until I decorate for Fall.
It’s what I call a “Happy Craft.”
When I originally made this – I thought I would place this on my
glass coffee table on a vintage, glass candleholder.
It’s shown here with one of my favorite Bunnies.
(I will share my Spring-decorated Living Room soon.)
Here is a close-up of the “Nest Topiary.”
In the end though, the Forsythia Wreath needed a little
“something-something” and I knew the
Bird Nest with Speckled Eggs
would be that perfect “something.”
And I wasn’t wrong.

The little birds’ nest is perfect by itself. But, it really sets off the forsythia wreath. I agree that the wreath is the place to use it. Maybe a second birds’ nest placed in a vignette on a table would be nice, too. I agree with you that you could leave it out as a decoration all the way through summer. I also like the “topiary” effect of placing the nest on a candlestick. I never would have thought of that, but it gave the little nest a whole different look. Happy Spring!
