Plaid was made for Christmas.
Whenever Christmas rolls around, I have
design plans of what my mantel will look like.
I imagine different types of ribbons – maybe shiny
ribbons, or textured ribbons – maybe even some
multi-colored ribbons.
Then every year – I always migrate to the plaids.
And every year – I remind myself how much I love them.
I particularly love this year’s plaid. A red and black tartan
that is also a wool material. It was the inspiration for my
Tartan Plaid and Berry Christmas Mantel
I am so honored to be part of a fabulous Christmas
Tour called Home for the Holidays
sponsored and hosted by Sondra Lyn at Home.
I will be sharing this complete line up of amazing
bloggers. The tour started Monday and runs all week so
please make sure you visit these beautiful projects.
I know many people put up their tree first.
In our home, the mantel comes first. It’s just the
natural progression of my decorating. The mantel
always sets the stage for the remainder of our home.
Plaid and Berry Christmas Mantel | The Everyday Home
This year, I really didn’t have a plan for a design theme.
I knew Mr. Buck would take center stage, once again.
He adores Christmas, you know. 🙂
Once I found the wool tartan plaid ribbon, I went in
search of a coordinating ribbon. The second I saw the
black and white houndstooth print, I think I lost my
breath I was so excited.
I added a third sheer,white ribbon, also.
I have to say, on a personal level,
this is one of the prettiest ribbon combinations I
have ever put together. And y’all know I love my ribbons
and bows.
🙂
The garland was created by layering lots of elements –
red berries, pine boughs, “snow-covered” sprigs…
And antlers…
(love these!)
I found these matching Tartan plaid stockings.
I can’t wait to fill these for my sweet Grandloves.
On each side of the mantel – white-washed, wood panels
create a backdrop for these small evergreen trees in
black urns, and black lanterns.
The red and black accents play well against
the white-painted brick backdrop.
During the day, the pops of red take center stage.
But once night falls and the lights come on…
its a whole new look and feel.
The icy branches sparkle amidst the white lights.
Even Mr. Buck takes on a soft glow…
The mantel lights up the whole room at night.
My Grandlove, Roo, said it “sparkles.”

Beautiful fireplace decor!! May I ask where you found the houndstooth ribbon?
View CommentBarb says
Hi Fran, I found it at Hobby Lobby in the regular ribbon section, not the Christmas ribbon aisle. Hope this helps. ~Barb

Where, oh where can I find my own Mr. Buck???
View CommentBarb says
Terri I used to sell them in my online shop, Farmhouse Decor Shop, but sold the business to a friend. You can still go to http://www.farmhousedecorshop.com and speak to Tammy about Mr. Buck, but I will tell you they have changed the design and he isn’t as pleasing. He looks “mean.” 😀 But that is where you can start. Good luck. I love him. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by. ~Barb

What do you use to attach items to your mantel, like hooks? It’s beautiful. Thank you!
View CommentBarb says
I had my handyman install a very tiny screw into the mortar and I painted it the same white. You could see it if you were up close. I left it them there year round. 🙂
