One of these days, I hope I DON’T ever figure out what I want to be when I
grow up. Why? Because I am having the time of my life right now.
I am perfectly happy being a stay-at-home wife to the bestest Husband ever!
I enjoy spoiling my three amazing Grandloves. After all, it’s my job as “Grammy” right?
I am so blessed to have my son, a former Solider and 3-time Iraqi Vet, and a
beautiful and loving daughter-in-law in business with me flipping homes.
We call ourselves “The Flippin’ Family.”
When my hubby retired from the Marine Corps after a 30+ year career,
we settled back in Eastern North Carolina – about 20 minutes from where I was
born and raised on a large Tobacco farm…and we set up permanent roots.
I would like to say, in many ways I have led a simple life.
But, when you’ve traveled and lived all over the World, “simple” was sometimes
a way of life. The highlight of our military travels was a
three-year tour of duty in Brussels, Belgium where I attended Cordon Bleu
and studied Old World Plasters and Finishes in Rome. Let’s not even talk
about the eccentric Countess and Designer I worked for.
I’ve been on HGTV and the Food Network and made it to Level 3 of 5
of HGTV’s The Next Design Star.
So as you see, there were times in my life that may not be considered
quite so “simple.”
But, throughout all these adventures, I have never lost focus of what
was truly important. God and my Family!
I started blogging in 2008, off and on, as a busy Real Estate
career would allow, and finally in October 2012 I fulfilled my dream and
started blogging full-time. I opened an online shop- “Farmhouse Decor” in
July 2012. I sold the shop in March, 2014.
I have no idea where blogging will take me. All I know is… I love to DIY
and Design. I love to Craft. I love to Cook and Entertain. I love to Garden…
and I love to Blog. So – I’ll take it one day at a time…embrace this
journey….and share the “Everyday” joys along the way.
You can find me most days with a glass of sweet tea with lemon,
a Grandlove or two in my lap, a cooking show playing in the background,
(or Mickey Mouse Clubhouse) and my glue gun
plugged in. I hope you will join me along this crazy journey.
God Bless…..xxoo, Barb

Hello
I work for a well-known website which has been built since 2004. We have lots of fine products that are related to your website. We want to place advertisement on your site, and could run long-term business. Are you interested in that?
I want a 125*125 banner on the right sidebar on your web for 3 months, but it’s my company’s rule to pay you ONLY through paypal, can you give me your paypal account?
I’m looking forward to your kindly reply!
Best regards

Question: My husband is crazy about the Wizard of Oz and wants our front walk to be a Yellow Brick Road. Based on your site, I think you would have some good ideas on how to do it without it looking ugly! Specifically I wanted to ask you about the one picture that I saw on Pinterest under “pathways” that has a lot of lavender and purple in it that could be inspiration but I have no idea how you might achieve it. Would love to talk to you??? (Can I give you my phone number?)

Hi Pat – we purchased the double bowl sink at IKEA. We had to drive 6 hrs one way to get to the nearest IKEA, but at $319 it was worth it. 🙂 Thanks, Barb

Hi Barb,
Reading your post today and saw you were down with your autoimmune. I also have that, specifically sjogrens, sarcoidosis and pelvic floor disfunction..Blah!,! I know how hard it can be to get going sometimes.
If I’m not being too personal, what autoimmune do you have?
Wishing you many more “good” days in 2017!
Hugs…..
View CommentBarb says
Hi Nonnajoy – not too personal at all and I am actually writing a post about it tonight. I have Hypothyroidism, Hashimotos and Stage 3 Adrenal Fatigue. Pretty sure I also have Sjogrens, too, but at this point does it matter? 🙂 I am so sorry for anyone who has to deal with this. It’s hard for anyone who doesn’t have it to really understand because on the outside I look fine. I have been in bed for about 3 weeks now, hoping this “episode” will pass soon. 🙁 Praying for you, too. xxoo, Barb

Hello Barb
I am new to the social media world and I am still slow and confused about most things. I do like your site and what you have done with it, it’s very informative and attractive. I have a website that I am just getting off the ground, we ( my wife and I) are selling Silk Flower arrangements and all sorts of flowers and plants made from the new real touch technology that is awesome, and so lifelike you have to look and touch to be sure. We also carry packages of 6 or 12 stems with beautiful full bloom silk flowers complete with lush verdant foliage, also accessories like Planters, Vases, Faux Fruit, and other items for the creative people that like to do it yourself. Definitely great gift ideas for Mothers Day, and Birthdays, or just decorating your home or office.
I hope you are feeling better, and If not get well soon!

Hello Barb,
View CommentI just finished reading how to create a topiary. That was quite interesting. But, I’m most interested in the ‘buffet’/sideboard on which it sits. What color paint did you use for that? I’ve a 1950 something cupboard that I want to paint, and the color would work great in my kitchen.
Thanks!
Barb says
Hi Becky,
View CommentI actually purchased this piece already painted. It came from Kirkland’s. It is a dark Robin’s Egg Blue with a dark glaze over it. Maybe you have one nearby so you can see it in person. Good luck, and thanks so much for stopping by. ~Barb

Hi Barb, I just recently discovered your wonderful website. I love all the ideas and recipes. Been a city girl all my life, but a country girl at heart. After 40 years of remodeling and enlarging our city home, raising 2 children, and numerous pets, my husband and I have finally just sold our city home and built a new place on our daughter’s acreage. Life is good. While he is still young enough to enjoy life, my husband is planning on retiring. As for me, I enjoy watching our two pre-schooldaughters, as well as helping to care for our daughters horses.
View CommentAgain, I love your wonderful ideas and recipes. I have been having fun, using many of your decorating ideas to accent our new country home!

Hi, Barb,
I’m a real minimalist when it comes to bloggers, but I like what I see on your emails, so I signed up to subscribe. I really love your free printables! I’ve printed several off, but now I don’t know what to do with them – frame them? I’m really not crafty, but I love your ideas and try to get inspiration and plans from them. Can you help me with the printables? The new Thanksgiving ones are so great, but I don’t want to print them, if I’m not going to use them. . . Help?
Thanks so much,
View CommentLynn
Barb says
Hi Lynn – I generally do print and frame mine and just tuck or lean them all around the home. I have a few variations of inexpensive frames I keep on hand. I recently also mounted one to a burlap covered board using upholstery tacks. I think they are cute when tucked in on a buffet or lean on your mantel, etc. Hope this helps. Thanks for stopping by. 🙂 ~Barb

Getting a very good idea of what your blog is about by reading the comments, tells me so much about you and your ideas. Have enjoyed reading your answers to questions and comments, shows you are responsive to giving answers and help when requested, shows you are polite and considerate along with caring..something which is important to me in a person. Where I live people are rather cold, removed from any kind of connection, even being friendly, to other people.
View CommentCan understand how busy bloggers must be with families, jobs but are so nice take the time to respond to their readers.
I feel so fortunate to have met some very personable and caring people on blog land. I tend to be partly isolated from many people, even my family, due to hearing loss, so big part of my life is centered on bloggers I get acquainted with.
I love your wreath ornaments and will be making several for gifts. Thank you so much for supplying the printables for those ornaments. Look forward to giving some as gifts as well as hanging on our own tree.
Enjoy rest of week. Am happy to have found your blog.
