Make Your Own Chalkboard Tags

Using chalkboard tags is all the rage in home decor, but what I love to use them for most of all is for organizing my home.  These easy DIY Chalkboard Tags were so easy to make.

Welcome to Operation Organize!

Wait!  What?  Operation Who?  Operation Organize.  Yep, I said it.  It’s time. No let’s say that it’s wayyyyy past time.

The Clutter.  The Chaos.  The “Crap” as The Hubbs so lovingly refers to my stacks of neatly piled “stuff.”

But, it’s officially out of control.  Kinda like the Army of Dust Bunnies which are organizing and have started marching around the house like Russian Soldiers.

As a military wife, I decided to face the daunting task of organizing my home like – well, a Marine.

Right after the first of this year, I sat down and created an “EPA.”  Evasion Plan of Action.

The Hubbs said I needed something more along the lines of a CAP.  Crisis Action Plan.   ๐Ÿ™‚

As you know, we just completed our Laundry Room and Pantry demo.  Can I just say LOVE!

Here is a quick peak at what this looked like before…

I tiny little closet, more like a broom closet really – “neatly” crammed full.

Oh, the shame!  ๐Ÿ™

I tackled the pantry area through the eyes of someone who loves to cook.  It may not work for everyone, but my system – thus far – has been a tremendous blessing in helping me menu plan and grocery shop.  Like I said… LOVE!

My POS {Pantry Organization System} was categorized by cuisine.

Instead of adding the canned tomatoes to the veggie stack, it was placed in the {Italian} Basket.
I also have an {Asian} and {Mexi} basket.  Any food item which falls into this category was placed in these baskets.  So far, so good.

I used chalkboard labels from Leen the Graphics Queen on some of the baskets, but on others – I wanted to make my own chalkboard tags.

I also recruited my favorite DIY Helper  (aka The Hubbs)…and he cut out some wood plaques from luan paneling.

– and I drilled holes in each corner while he cut.

A few coats of a chalkboard spray paint…

… and some simply jute twine hangers later, I had these…

These cute little chalkboard tags make everything easy to recognize and find.  Best part, if I find a particular categorized basket isn’t working out, I can simply erase the little chalkboard tag and write whatever I decide to refill the basket with.

Such as…

  • – snacks I crave at 1am.
    – sooooo not diet foods.
    – Wine!
    – Foods I am Hiding from the Boys!
    – More Wine!  ๐Ÿ™‚

So, that’s it.  Organized Pantry.  Check.

Oh, and as for that Army of Dust Bunnies that are trying to take over The Everyday Home…

I spotted their elusive leader.  I think “Lt. Lily” was in full military planning mode to stage her coup.

Good thing I “disguised” the kitty treats in a safe place.  ๐Ÿ˜€

I love your new pantry storage. That is next on our list. By the way, I can feel your husband’s pain! I am going through a major purging in our home, and nothing is sacred! Cupboards, library shelves along the fireplace, closets, you name it! Add to that we are trying to finish our “short list” for our kitchen. Oh, the fun never ends, does it? By the way, I love that idea for chalkboard paint in a spray can. I didnt know it came that way. Then again, maybe it doesn’t come that way where I live in New Brunswick, Canada. Ugh…most things don’t come our way here…sad I tell ya’! Just plain sad!

Way to fool the cat. Wonder if writing Cafe on my snacks bin would fool me?

I think POS is a military term. Something about a personal vehicle, right? Or piece of ….

Wait a minute, I may be confusing my acronyms.

I know you are loving the new enlarged pantry. So much space and so organized. You put the rest of us to shame.

As for dust bunnies, I’m adding ribbon to mine and calling them Easter dust bunnies. Think I can fool anyone?
