I am not going to lie…I am just as guilty as most. I get so wrapped up in making sure my home is decorated to perfection through my eyes….I forget that Christmas is a time of joy and wonderment through the eyes of children. I remember the year both my son and daughter-in-law were deployed to Iraq, and me and Grandpa had the sole care of our then 2-year Grandson. That year…our tree was decorated with construction paper chains, paper plate snowflakes, cottoan ball snowmen and lots of candy canes. Perhaps it was our prettiest tree ever. This year…we are going to have a tree just for the grandchildren. Strings of popcorn, toy ornaments…and maybe some more cotton ball snowmen. (I promise to post pics as soon as my little artists are through.)
Until then…look at these darling trees and rooms. Such inspiration. Even if you don’t have any small children in your home anymore…adding a few whimsical touches here and there will lighten the soul and thrill your heart.
I love this room in primary colors. The Merry Christmas banner would be super easy
to make using assorted Scrapbooking Papers.
This pink tree is all girl. Any little girl would be thrilled to have this in her room.
An Americana Room in hues of reds and blues features a tree decorated
in a patriotic theme.
Popcorn garland is surrounded by ornaments depicting a Fram Theme…Horses and
Tractors and Pigs! Oh My!
A simple pine limb is “planted” in an old silver trophy.
I love the addition of the ornaments on ribbons. This is an easy idea that could be used
anywhere in a child’s room, such as over the bed, over a mirror, from a bookshelf, etc.
From etsy.com – I am in love with these vintage blocks and mini trees.
You could make these with newer blocks which you could age with
sandpaper and stain. Wouldn’t it be fun to spell out your child’s name?
Perhaps painting or writing this directly on a wall isnt so practical, but this same idea could
be applied to a large plain canvas. It could even read a favorite passage from The Night Before Christmas, for example.
I absolutely must get some of these darling car lights for my
grandson’s tree.
This Elf-inspired window treatment would be so easy to make.
Red felt cut into a pointed valance, with strips of green toile or netting
as the “panel.”
Speaking of elves…
Hey Scooby Doooooo….
May You Find the Child Within Your
Heart this Christmas….Barb

Those car lights are adorable! All of these ideas are so cute, but my favorite has to be Scooby – my hero!

I told my husband as I was spending an entire day putting up the tree…alone…that people don’t warn you that the fun really leaves with the kids. I used to put up a tree with our family ornaments for them and a “pretty” one for me to play with. Each kid also had a tree in their room. Now, my grands are only here one night and they are still so young that they can’t help decorate yet. My tree is gorgeous, but without all the laughter etc. something is just missing in the house.
