A few years back, I bought an older hutch on Craigslist
for my Breakfast Room. I think I paid $75. (?)
It was made by Ethan Allen, and had very good bones.
Here it is before I painted it black.
And here it is after…
HERE is the post where I added fabric on the back
using Liquid Starch.
Its filled with some of my collection of
Pink and White Staffordshire.
But, now that I have gone lighter and brighter in my
kitchen,I am grappling with the idea of painting it white,
or keeping it black and adding a burlap backing.

or keeping it black and adding a burlap backing.
My kitchen table is also painted black. My plans for the
table are to take the painted topback to its natural
wood state and apply a pretty stain.
wood state and apply a pretty stain.
Then I will either paint the base
and legs white or possibly paint it the same blue as my
new chest, seen below in my kitchen sneakie peakie.
So, I thought I would take a quick jaunt over to one of
my favorite little shops where I live…
its called Sweet Potato Vintage.
The owner, Sharon, has some of the most gorgeous painted
items I have ever seen. And nope, not a drop of ASCP
anywhere. She uses latex paints, glazes and waxes.
So step inside this darling little treasure trove of a shop
and let’s gather some inspiration together.
Located on Hwy 24, in Cedar Point, NC
From the wide front porch, you are greeted with
lots of vintage loveliness.
This is where the owner, Sharon, offers vintage garden
decor, as well.
Her pieces are primarily white, but because her shop is just
minutes to the beach, she also caters to a
Condo Clientele.
Creamy yellows and blues.
Beachy, yet still very Cottagy at the same time.
Beachy, yet still very Cottagy at the same time.
She scours estate sales to find original and
unique pieces, and with a flourish of paint and glazes…
…she creates these wonderful, collectible pieces.
Remember the post about my love of chairs?
It was all I could do not to plop down my debit
card to purchase this Etagere Chair.
sigh
I imagine these black side tables were nowhere near
as interesting before they were painted.
Sharon also carries some unique items of brocante.
White painted hutches and cabbage-rose
covered settees.
I soooo need a cottage!
But, prepare yourself (deep breaths) –
because this is the piece that set my heart racing.
Oh my…
Have you ever seen anything as beautiful?
I could just imagine this filled with my
Blue and White Staffordshire.
And if by chance, this piece below is still there next month,
it will be transported home with me.
I have been looking for a bench like this to go with my
breakfast table. I can see it filled with grain sack pillows
and linen cushions.
She finds and sells the most amazing mirrors.
Look at this charming vanity and slipper chair.
There’s also some darling childrens furniture.
I would love this for my boys.
This wonderful shop definitely gave me a lot of
“After Inspiration.”
I am always in awe of the power of paint.

Barb-What beautiful things she carries in her shop. What a lot of inspiration to be found there. It is funny about the ASCP…people either love it or hate it. One of the gals that has a booth here won’t use it at all. She says the finish is “tacky” and will be out of favor in a short while. She, too, uses good quality paints and glazes and polys.
I love your hutch. It is pretty black but would be pretty white, too. sigh…decisions…decisions! xo Diana

OK…you are taking me to that place!!…
My take on finding a gem…if you love it..and you keep making that “breathing sound” called a sigh…If you sigh more than a couple of times, that means you have to take that puppy home!!…Way too many times I have left a place..thinking about what I left behind..then going back and it was gone…
That is one great place…love it!…

Yes, I think I will take one of everything. Oh wait, I’m not a millionaire, so I guess I will have to buy them all in my mind. HAHA! Gorgeous pieces!

Pure eye candy, Barb! I think I saw at least ten things I would have had to pull myself away from! Love it all, but I love the bench because I’d like one, too.
