I heart details. The little touches of any room that create that final statement.
Like the string of pearls on the simple black dress.
Have you ever walked into a room which was rich with design… the
perfect wallpaper, the perfect color scheme, a great floor plan, phenomenal
furnishings… and that’s where it stops?
Like the decorator just got tired and went off to have a Strawberry-Cheesecake
Blizzard at Dairy Queen. With whipped cream. And a cherry.
And in your little decorator’s heart… you know that something is missing.
The details.
The personality.
The touches that say “this room is mine, and this is who I am.”
I am starting a new mini-series called “Adding the Accents.”
This week, I am featuring Bathroom Decor.
I don’t know about you, but nothing gets my pitty-patty heart racing any
faster than a bathroom that looks and feels like a spa.
Luxurious, white fluffy towels.
French milled soaps.
Glass apothecary jars filled with sponges.
Containers of bath salts.
Plants and Flowers:
One of the things I love most, and hardly ever add – are fresh flowers, like
seen above. Some household plants, such as philodendron, actually thrive
in a bathroom setting because of the moisture in the room.
And if you can’t grow a philodendron, you truly are green-thumb deprived.
Trays:
LOVE!
It’s a simple way to gather hand towels, soaps and candles all in one
spot, thereby preventing a cluttered look. Plus, a pretty tray adds another
design element to your bath.
Canisters and Jars and Containers:
I love using vessels that you would usually
find in the kitchen, etc, and put them to use in the bathroom.
Look at the pretty garden pot filled with an assortment of bath sponges
and scrubbies.
Artwork:
While artwork is a personal thing, I love sweet little “bathroom art”
signs like the one above. Whether you have framed art or handpainted
drawings, it’s another character of the room that enhances the personality
of the space.
I have always loved adding interesting artwork and details to a powder room.
Why?
Because if you really think about it, it’s one of the rooms in your home where
guests are alone in your home. You might as well make their “business trip”
an interesting one and give them something fun to look at.
(other than a People magazine)
Lotions and Handsoaps:
I love these pretty bottles above. It truly makes
a bathroom so much prettier than the handsoap you buy at the grocery
store doesn’t it. *(hint: refill the pretty bottles with the grocery store soap)
Or, even better… make your own Homemade Goat’s Milk Soap.
Either way, adding this small attention to detail will create that spa look
we all love.
So what are some of the details you have added in your own bathroom?
I would love to hear about them. I just don’t wanna know if its one of
these:
I provided the source for the above fella so y’all can run out and by one for each bathroom.
I hope you enjoyed this new series. I look forward to sharing another one
soon. In the meantime, I have a fantastic giveaway for you compliments
of my friend, Dawn.
Dawn just started a new company, the General Store Soap Company.
And she has graciously offered to giveaway a beautiful basket of the most
beautiful Blue Bird’s Egg Soaps.
Do you LOVE them or what???
Six little blue egg soaps in a cute peat pot container.
All for one lucky winner.
If you can’t wait long enough for the contest to end, and you just
gotta have some NOW, head over to her Etsy Shop.
A little birdie (the one on her label I think) told me she was
having a sale.
I know. I had you at “sale” didn’t I?
Just enter below using Rafflecopter and the winner will be
announced in a week!

Hi Barb,
View CommentYou know you are talking my language when it come to designing a bathroom, my favorite room to design!! I love a spa-look and to date it is probably my favorite look for a bathroom. Of course there is always an all white bathroom that catches my eye as well. I try to have fresh flowers in my guest bath at all times, sometimes just a spig of greenery is in there, but always something fresh and alive. White towels are my go-to towel, with a monogram!! I could talk about bathroom for days so this new series is going to be a favorite of mine!!!

I’m in the process of planning to re-decorate my bathroom. My husband is choosing the colors. Love the little vignettes on the trays. Hope to incorporate some of these ideas to get that hotel chic look.

Great ideas!! I just redecorated my small bathrooms…. I used color. Not a lot of space for jars or trays/baskets and the such.
