The Hubbs: “Mmmmm…is that for dinner?”
Me: “Well, I guess it could be. I was going to save it for breakfast but we can
eat it tonight, I suppose.”
The Hubbs: “What you fixing it now for?”
Me: “I’m fixing it for ‘Tasty Tuesday’ for tomorrow’s post.”
The Hubbs: “You’re fixing S.O.S?” {insert loud gaffawing}
Me: “No I’m fixin’ ‘Made from Scratch Sausage Gravy.'”
{more gaffawing}
The Hubbs: {dipping a huge spoonful from the pan} “You can call it all you want
but its gonna look like S.O.S. in a picture.”
And that’s when I stopped. Dead in my tracks. As if I had run right smack dab
into a glass door. That had been closed after I walked through it. That kind of
stopped.
Me: “Well, shoot! I don’t know why I didn’t think about that. It’s gonna be
uh-gleeeee!”
The Hubbs: [taking another heaping spoonful from the pan} “Just tell them
I said it’s good.”
Me: {now the one who is gaffawing} “And what shall I say qualifies you as the
official Sausage Gravy critic?”
The Hubbs: “‘Cause I’ve eaten plenty of S.O.S. in the Corps – and this ain’t no
S.O.S.”
There you go. Chef de Cuisine has spoken. “This ain’t no S.O.S.“
But….it is ugly. You’ll just have to take his word for it.
Welcome to Tasty Tuesday y’all…
“Where the pics ain’t purty but the food tastes fine.”
heehee
Here is the recipe… it’s simple and takes just minutes to make.
In fact, it’s so easy – you will wonder why you’ve never made it before, and
I promise you it will become a family favorite – for breakfast…or dinner.
- (2) packages bulk sausage, regular
- (2) Cups Milk
- (1) small onion, chopped
- (5-6) Tablespoons flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- (opt) 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper
- In a large skillet, brown sausage until it is completely cooked and crumbled, and onion is translucent. Turn down heat to Medium. Add flour (2) Tablespoons at a time, stirring each time. You want the sausage to have a pasty look, with no moisture remaining in the pan. Pour in milk, stir. Turn heat to Medium-High. Add salt and pepper and (opt) red pepper flakes. Allow mixture to thicken. Add (1/4) cup or more milk for a looser consistency. Adjust seasonings to taste. Serve over thick Texas Toast or fresh-out-of-the-oven flaky biscuits.
Brown the ground beef and onion.
Add the flour.
Add the milk and the spices. Simmer.
Serve on hot biscuits….
Then take a 101 pics trying to get the “pretty shot.”
Finally give up, and realize that brown and grey food truly does look
like S.O.S.
But The Hubbs says its good. And I promise it is.
Last week for Tasty Tuesday, my Garden Contributor Kelly from
My Soulful Home shared another one of her marvelous and masterful

The theme was “B is for Berries.”
Kelly was giving away a beautiful book, Mes Confitures and an
amazing-looking Jar of Jam. Also, Farmhouse Decor was throwing in

Yep, sausage gravy isn’t all that appealing to the eyes but it is so good. I haven’t made this in a long time! Guess I will be running to the store for biscuits!

I’m gonna try making this with the gluten free Cup 4 Cup flour that I buy at Williams Sonoma. I really miss Sausage gravy! I also need to get some gluten free biscuits going to! You have inspired me to try and create a g-free version for myself!
Thanks girl!! <3
P.S. Maybe it's because I haven't been able to eat this for so long, but it looks really delish to me, in your photos!!!!
