The Hubbs and I took a short trip to VA this past weekend
to meet our new grand-niece, Robin Victoria.
What a beautiful blessing she is to our family.
Whenever we are there, I try to cook a special homemade
meal for everyone to enjoy.
In truth – it’s really just an excuse for me to go to the
Disneyland of Grocery Stores…
I need to apologize for these pics, as they were all taken with my iPhone.
I know, I know – a dedicated Blogger ALWAYS has her camera.
🙂
You may or may not have heard about this place.
I had never heard of if until last year when we visited.
I experienced true Grocery-Store Love!
During my first visit last year, they sent me for milk –
almost two hours later they texted me to see if I was ok.
🙂
First of all, they have a section of gourmet prepared foods,
freshly cooked on-site – which is the size of most average
grocery stores.
They have every imaginable kinds of foods known.
Even a Vegan bar.
This is their “Grab ‘n Go” Dessert Bar.
Seriously?
Don’t they mean “Grab ‘n Eat Right In The Store?”
Yea, no words needed here.
I love fresh but this is “off the hook” fresh…
Bubba Gump would be in Shrimp Heaven at this counter.
Aside from aisle after aisle of foods and grocery items, they
also have a small Home section.
Love this cute outdoor display.
So colorful!
I mean, how can you NOT like a grocery store that
sells dishes…
…and then displays them in pretty tablescapes.
KariAnne at Thistlewood Farms would say this
is “Freshy.” 🙂
Here is one of my fave areas…
It’s filled with Mediterranean Goodies Galore!
More varieties of olives than I knew even existed.
This is the area of the bar I shopped…
I bought pesto, roasted mini garlic, and sun dried tomatoes.
I fixed roasted leg of lamb, pan-fried fingerling potatoes,
fresh asparagus with a lemon-rosemary glaze,
Caesar salad and this…
Pesto and Sun Dried Tomato Crazy Bread
I will go ahead and apologize, because I got so involved
in the cooking process I forgot to take pics all along.
(I promise I will do better next time) 🙂
Basically, Crazy Bread is a savory version of
a sweet Monkey Bread.
I started by cutting up two cans of
Flakey-Style Grands Biscuits, in about 1″ chunks.
I divided the biscuit chunks into three parts.
Then, I layered the pesto, chopped sun dried tomatoes and
chopped roasted garlic from the Med Bar.
Then, I sprinkled the “toppings” with a generous
amount of grated Parmesan, and repeated the layers.
Once it baked for about 30 mins and cooled slightly,
it easily slid out of the silicone baking pan.
This was my first go-round with a silicone baking pan, and
let me just say – I am SOLD!
I will be getting some of these pans.
At this point, you will have to use your imagination, but each
slice revealed layers of flakey biscuit, succulent sun dried
tomatoes, nutty pesto and sweet roasted garlic.
It was….love. Bread Love.
I promise to make another batch and take more pics.
Because once you go Crazy Bread, you can’t go back.
🙂
Blessings, Barb

Oh Wegmans…the mecca of all things food stores…How I pray that Wegmans would come to N.C. A grocery store?…..Well, maybe like the Disneyland of grocery stores…one that even I would look forward to going to…Wegman’s makes food shopping a true experience!
So glad you had the opportunity to experience it last weekend!!!

I have found that a lot of the grocery stores here in Ohio have similar, Barb. I was totally amazed because in NY we did not have grocery stores that sold furniture, clothes and home decor along with your groceries! I try and stick to the food side of the store when I go to one of these big supermarkets.

My husband is a buyer for a grocery store chain. They quite often tour Wegman’s for competition checks. He is greatly impressed with this store as well. Would love to experience this myself!

Being someone who isn’t afraid of a drive when there is a destination like this I’m thinking the next time I visit our daughter in Jacksonville we’ll have to do a little road trip to Wegmans!

Wow!! That is an amazing store, The only thing remotely close to that is Whole Foods. I can see why you loved it so much with your culinary skills it had to be like a candy store to you, That bread is going to be tried here in Calif. Do you have a recipe or portions or is it a little of this and a little of that recipe? Love it,

I am a huge fan off Wegmans and always look for them when I’m I NY. My favorite one was in Pittsford NY, unfortunately since I’m retired I don’t get to NY as often but when I do I always look for a Wegmans.

Wegmans is incomparable. Until some one has “experienced” Wegmans they truly cannot begin to imagine how wonderful it truly is. I have to drive 40 minutes to the closest Wegmans so I don’t go as often as I would like, however, I know it is always a 2 hour (minimum) shopping trip. I feel like I have to look at every single thing!

This reminds me of Whole Foods. I love to visit. Good think it is 50 miles from home or I might be in a lot of trouble.:-)
We don’t have Wegman’s in our neck of the woods, but I have certainly heard about it.

I used to live three miles from the ‘flagship’ Wegmans in Rochester. I was a newlywed and madly in love with both my husband and the grocery store. Now I am in the south…NC…and I have one thing to say: Harris Teeter is no Wegmans.

OMG! I think I’ve blogged about Wegmans at least two times!! I was kinda embarrassed to be taking pictures while in the store but I couldn’t help it! It’s all so marvelous!! We live in central VA and take a trip to N. VA at least once per season. We’ve been Wegmanites since 1990 when we lived in upstate NY. You done good and I’m so proud of you 😉

Looks fabulous. We have two of these types of stores about 2 miles each way from me. Unreal with all the wonderful things they have to choose from. It’s my weekly place to shop. Love the bread, it sounds fabulous. Our are called Fry’s Super Stores. I will have to take pics. Hugs, Marty

What an amazing store! I have never heard of Wegman’s but I am going to google it to see if there are any nearby. We have Stew Leonard’s for entertainment and grocery shopping but this one looks fabulous. Linda

I discovered Wegmans while visiting daughter in NJ- it truly is the crown jewel of grocery stores. Here in the midwest we have Meijers which doesn’t hold a candle to the quality, high end items that Wegmans carry.

What a grocery store! Ah-mazing! My husband thinks I spend way to much time in the grocery stores since we moved to the city. He’d really flip over this! =) The bread sounds really good. I’ll have to give it a whirl!
