My neighbor thinks I am nutso !
I am pretty sure of it.
But, who can blame her really.
Imagine your neighbor coming to your door one
morning, carrying a coffee mug that says
“Classy, Sassy and a Bit Smart-Assy” –
(maybe I should have chosen a different mug) 😀
… and asking if she could have the thrown out,
curbside night stand sitting in your trash heap.
Imagine that.
You would think she was “nutso” too, huh?
But, I could not leave that forlorn-looking table
out there, when all it needed was some DIY Love.
Farmhouse Bedside Table
This is how it started.
Dreary and a little sad.
Not sassy and smart-assy at all.
😀
The top was quite damaged.
I don’t think I will ever forget the look of total
disgust on my neighbor’s face when she said
“But, its gross. It was in my son’s room.”
I assured her I was well aware of the condition and I
had special plans for it.
She replied…”why don’t you just buy a new one.”
“Because I want this one,” I replied as I sauntered
back to the curb to drag my roadkill home.
Buy one? pshawwww.
I’m a Blogger. Silly Woman.
It had these cute glass knobs…
And the second drawer’s knob were okay, too.
It was so sad and dejected-looking, sitting
on that curb beside the bags of stinky trash and
tied up kitty litter.
So, I hauled it back to The Everyday Home.
I cleaned it up good, removed all of the knobs and
gave it two coats of a pretty, blue paint.
SW Bravo Blue. Kind of fitting, huh? 🙂
Suddenly, the pretty trim detail started showing off.
Next, I had to deal with that damaged top.
If you know anything about laminate, you know
that damaged top was not salvageable.
So, some scrap pieces of lumber from our
ongoing kitchen mini-remodel was put to good use.
I cut all the pieces so it would fit the top of the table
with a slight overhang on the sides.
Once I was happy with the placement, I gave the boards
a light sanding and then used my
beloved nail gun to secure them to the top.
I wasn’t overly concerned about any minor gaps
between the boards. I thought that would only
add to the look. But, I thought the wood did
need some more “wear ‘n tear.”
So, out came the hammer and a screwdriver.
After a lot of whacks and some loud noise…
I had some roughened boards that I knew
would look even better once stained.
Perfect!!!
I decided I wanted the blue cabinet to also look
antiqued. So, I used one of my favorite glazes…
– and mixed it with some latex stain.
I mixed it in one of my “fancy” mixing bowls.
🙂
Using some paper towels –
(I know, its high-end tools for me, baby! haha)
I simply rubbed it onto the painted surfaces.
So, what was once left abandoned on the curb,
destined for a future in the local dump –
Went from this…
… to this!
I decided the last minute to also antique the
white-painted drawer fronts…
And look how that pretty detail stands out now…
I almost changed out the knobs to something new –
but in the end, decided that I actually liked
the originals.
I have a little secret.
I would soooooo love to take a picture of my
new, little Farmhouse Bedside Table with a sign
attached saying…
“How do ‘ya like me now????”
And send it to my neighbor.
Who thinks I am nutso.
😀
But, I’ll let her just go on thinking that, so she
keeps putting out furniture by the curb.
Ha!

You did an amazing job. I love the colors you used and the top is beautiful. I don’t think you could even find something that pretty new. As far as being crazy, I have lots of family and friends who think I’m crazy too but it’s the old tried and true saying, one mans trash is another’s treasure.

I’m okay with her thinking I am a little crazy. Neighbors tend to borrow less things from the crazy ones. LOL Thanks for stopping by and saying hi.

Awww thanks. No, I have actually been looking for something like this and just could not find the colors or look I wanted. When you can’t find it …make it. 🙂 Thanks for your kind words and for stopping by. Have a great day, Barb
