“Where there is love…there is life.” ~Mahatma Ghandi
I wonder about all the many love stories through the ages. From Adam and Eve to Queen Victoria and Albert – I wonder…did they give each other small tokens of love? Or, was the mere act of being in the presence of their loved one enough? Me and The Hubbs are not huge Valentine’s Day gift givers. But, because I make our own health and beauty products, I decided to make some little heart-shaped Valentine Soap to slip in the bathroom on the morning of the 14th.
A while back, I discovered how easy it was to make our own soap. And now, I rarely buy store-bought versions. The first soap I made was a Rosemary-Citrus Soap, and it’s still one of my favorite scents today.
I have to admit…making soap is an absolute no-brainer.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
- Goats Milk Soap Base
- Lavender Essential Oil
- Dried Lavender Buds
- Heart Shaped Mini Candy Hearts
- Heart-shaped Silicon Pan
I like these silicone pans because no extra prep is needed for the pans. And the soaps slip out easily once they have set up and hardened.
HERE’S HOW YOU MAKE IT:
The first step is to cut the soap base into about 1″ chunks, and place it in a microwaveable container…
I like to use something disposable so there is no clean-up. As you can see above, I have added an ample amount
of the dried lavender buds. *(note: you can reserve a few buds out to sprinkle on top of the soaps once you
have poured them into the mold, so they really show on top.) I melted the soap in the microwave on 30 second intervals, stirring with a plastic spoon after each round. You could also use a glass bowl over a double boiler, just keep in mind of the clean-up, etc. Once melted, I add the suggested amount of Lavender Essential Oils* or Lavender Essence* (as suggested on the package) directly into the melted soap base.
(My apologies, I did not get a picture of this step.)
The melted base is very hot, so please use caution. Pour the base into your molds. Here is a picture of the square molds* I normally use….
Since these soaps were being specially made for Valentine’s Day…I wanted to add a bit more decoration and color. I mixed some sugar with food coloring…
Once the soaps were poured into the molds and while the soap base was still warm, I sprinkled a pinch or two of the colored sugar on top of the soaps…then also added some mini candied hearts.*
Both the sugar and candy hearts are edible. No, don’t eat the soap. 🙂 But, the candies and sugar are water-soluble – so they will simply melt away in the shower.
I just love the way they turned out. Petite and pink and red and heart-shaped. And lavender-scented. It doesn’t get much better than that.
If you’re looking for a cute gift to give to Teachers, Co-Workers or Friends…(or unsuspecting spouses in the morning on Valentine’s Day) then these are perfect. Stick a few in a small, clear cellophane bag…tie with some baker’s twine and add a cute little printable such as this one I made just for you…

These are beautiful and look good enough to eat! I didn’t realize how easy it is to make your own soap. These would be great to put into a guest bath or powder room. Love your project, my sweet friend!

They really do look good enough to eat (I know, I know, not edible!). And love the easy clean-up tips. Because that is where I fail. At clean up! My least favorite part of crafting!
Love them. Pinning and sharing! So happy to be sharing the V-Day love with you today!
🙂 Linda

Why did I get so hungry reading this post? I think I’ll put this on my “must try” list – my daughter and I are enjoying making things like this together – in fact we made our own lipstick out of crayons. Thanks so much for the inspiration!! Now I must cook something with rosemary….:)
