Comment on Traditional Fall Tablescape by Naomi S..

So, so pretty, Barb. I know what you mean about trying to stay neutral and the color creeping in! We are just not neutral gals, that’s all!

I love the pumpkins in your tablescape, especially the big green one. And the little velvet-looking one. And I love all the candles you managed to find room for. Also, those pumpkin plates from Pier 1 are awesome!

I have no formal dining room so I will not be doing a big tablescape. I’ll just have to enjoy others’.

Cozy Winter Decor in the Living Room
I hate to think what my home would say about me! It might be “Get rid of some of those magazines!” Or, “Geez, when are you going to clear out that office?” Most likely it would say sternly, “Yeah, the kitchen looks good but your bedroom is a MESS! And, by the way, who’s doing the floors these days, anyone?”

But, then again, it might say, “That little Christmas tree in the corner of the LR with it’s white and silver ornaments and twinkle lights is so pretty.” And, possibly, it might say, “I’m noticing how great the plants are looking these days. One of those African Violets is just about to send up a big bunch of blossoms! And the Christmas decor on the piano is very nice but when will you be taking that down?”

There’s a lot that could be done to improve this place, for sure. But I’m grateful to have my little ranch house and am never bored thinking about how I want to improve it.

Thanks for sharing your “winter living room” Barb. I love your blues, especially the two blue chairs. And the china hutch with all the blue and white is beautiful. An inspiring bit of eye candy on this bleak winter day in Michigan.

Hope the New Year is off to a good start for you!

10 Items to Buy After Christmas
As usual, great tips, Barb! I did a little after Christmas shopping yesterday. Found a pretty ornament marked $12. and bought it for $3. Also, after Christmas every year I shop for items from my favorite holiday dishes. Yesterday I found a lovely platter marked $50. and bought it for $12.! I was thrilled because I love the design of these dishes so much but at full price they are just too expensive for my budget. I’ve been doing this for several years and have accumulated quite a number of pieces.

Anyway, it does pay to be able to take advantage of the after-holiday discounts on many items that you’ll need next year.

Must Have Christmas Storage Products and Ideas
Just what I needed, Barb! My holiday decorations have been a mess for a few years now and I have resolved to get them sorted and stored properly this season. So your ideas are super-helpful as I begin to pack things away. Thanks so much!

A New Romance Novel {Chapter One}
A marvelous and intriguing first chapter. But that last line—must it be true? It is definitely a great lead-in to the next chapter.

I do have one suggestion, though, which I hope will not be offensive to you. I would encourage you to have another writer proof-read your work before you publish. I don’t know if you did that with your first book or not, but as I was reading–and speaking as an old English major–I noticed several somewhat awkward word usages plus some incorrect punctuation. Now, I know that many people in the present day pooh-pooh correct grammar and word usage, but you want to project a professional image as a writer, so it’s important, in my mind, to pay attention to these “small” issues. I hope you will receive these suggestions as I intend them–as friendly and supportive information.

Having only read this first chapter of your second novel, Barb, I want to tell you that I think you have a gift for writing and are every bit as good as many of the writers of romance and other types of stories that I have read. And that is over the course of about sixty-five or seventy years! So be encouraged by all of us who love your stories and keep on writing!

Now,please tell me where I can find your first novel! I can’t wait to read it!

Summer Decor in a Farmhouse Dining Room
I love your pink and white Staffordshire. There is a collection of Johnson Bros. called Old England Castles that is the same color. I believe both are what is called transfer ware. Do you know? I have only one castle but hope someday to have more. I’ll never have them all as I believe there are somewhere around ninety castles depicted!

You asked if we would use pink in our own dining rooms and my answer is definitely yes. My walls in my DR are actually a very subtle shad of pink. And I love displaying a vase of my pink peonies on my buffet. So we are in agreement with that subject!

What I really love about your DR buffet display is the white, chunky candle holders toward the back. Have been looking for some like that or similar but haven’t found what I want at the price I want to pay.
