*This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group™ and GoodNites, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #BetterNights http://cmp.ly/3/8vNxcO.”
A few weeks ago, my son and I spent a whole week redecorating my grandson’s
bedroom. My 7-year old grandson and my 3-yr old grandson would be sharing a
room. After ruling out bunk beds, my son and daughter-in-law decided on two
twin beds.
That meant two mattress sets, two sheet sets, two quilts, two blankets….
you get the idea.
We had decided on a nautical theme. Primarily, because the color scheme of
red, blue and khaki would allow them to grow with the room, with some simple
bedding and decor changes. So, I sat out designing the bedroom with this in
mind.
Initially, I found these sheets at Pottery Barn Kids.
These were perfect. As in the perfectness of all perfectnesses. THAT Perfect!
Both my boys have this fascination for all things shark. Don’t ask me why… it’s
a “boy thing” I guess. 🙂
Perusing the PK Kids site even more, I just knew this bedding collection would be
perfect for the look we were going for.
Ok, sheets check. Bedding, check.
Wait!!!! Uncheck! Uncheck! I had to remind myself it was Bedding x 2.
While I love Pottery Barn and Pottery Barn Kids, my debit card was having an
anxiety attack just thinking about the total cost.
So my cheap budget-conscience mind started thinking… “splurge on the perfect
sheets… look for a cheaper less expensive madras comforter.
By the way – have I ever told you I have a “thing” for madras? I guess it’s a
“girl thing.”
I found this bedding at Target.
Not too bad, I was thinking. It was pretty darned close.
And with a considerable savings by combining the Pottery Barn shark sheets,
Target Plaid bedding and some other pillows I had already purchased…. it was
a no-brainer. I entered my debit card info quicker than a cat can pounce a laser
light.
(for all of you non-kitty owners…that’s pretty fast!)
Here is a little peak at how the bedding turned out. They love it! My sweet Cole
Man says the sheets make him sleep better.
*(If I thought that was true, there would be shark sheets in California King at
The Everyday Home right now.)
That brings me to a new product I was recently introduced to. I think its a
fabulous product, and best of all… I love how it will help protect the new
bedding and mattresses, too. That’s a win-win-win.
It’s called GoodNites Disposable Bed Mats.
Have you heard of these? My little Roo has an occasional accident, like all little
boys and girls do… so these are perfect because they are super absorbent and
work like a charm.
You can lay it right under the fitted sheet on top of the mattress…
I love that all four corners have adhesive backs which allow the mats to stay
in place.
You can also place them right over the top of the sheet …
The other thing we have found great about them is that we can throw one
into Miss C’s diaper bag as a quick and disposable diaper changing pad when
we are out and about.
More perfectness.

this product. Simply click HERE for your coupon.
I can’t wait to reveal the finished Boy’s Bedroom Project. Just a few final
touches and it will be done! Why do the final touches always take the longest?
I promise it will be a shark infested, pirate-chest filled, seashell explosion,
nautical good room. Aye, Matie!

I love the sneak peek of the room. I’m thinking about switching out the dinosaur bedspread in Jackson’s room for something a little more grown up. (We’ll still keep the dino sheets, though!) I love the Madras version you found at Target.
My dad has a funny Madras story. He wore a pair of madras pants to high school, which was apparently agains the dress code. So, they sent him home and those paints, which cost a pretty penny at Belk, disappeared. My grandmother went to her grave swearing she did not throw them away. It’s a great mystery in our family what happened to those pants.

I love the whole ideal. Goodnites bed mats is very helpful for parents who have kids peeing during the night. The bed looks comfy by just looking at it.

You have melted my heart!! I adore madras… must be my age and my New England upbringing…. and like you, used a madras comforter for my son’s bedroom years ago. I think it was a Tommy Hilfiger bought at Bed, Bath & Beyond. I had totally forgotten it until I started reading your post. Thanks for bringing back a memory for me! As for what you are creating for those little boys.. well, it’s just perfection, like you said!!

The linens look great and I love the beadboard on the wall. I could have used those liners when my youngest son was small. They would be great when one travels with bedwetters or small kids as back up to the pull ups when one is a guest.
