I have veggies and herbs on the brain.
It’s that time of year and I am itching to plan my garden and get some fresh dirt under my fingernails. With seed & gardening books in hand, I fixed a mug of coffee with coconut oil, and spent the next few hours planning and ordering to my gardener’s heart content. I want to share the cute arrangement I added to our coffee counter – to celebrate the arrival of Spring.
Spring Lettuce in a Farmhouse Bowl
…………………………………….
I am rather proud of myself. Some would say I should be disappointed, but I’m not. You see – I have a dish-hoarding problem. I admit it, I do. But, one of the agreements I made with myself was NO MORE NEW DISHES until I weeded out some of the ones I didn’t use, no longer liked, or was a space stealer. Well, THAT hasn’t happened. Yet. It’s on my to-do list, but this crazy little thing called life gets in the way. I needed new bedsheets and went to Marshall’s.
I know! FIRST mistake.
Second mistake was meandering thru the dish aisle.

And sitting right there – in all it’s cute glory, sat this little blue, knobbed bowl that begged me to take it home with me. Kinda like a little puppy with sad puppy-dog eyes at a pound.
HOW could I possibly say no, right? I should be filled with guilt.
{Fellow dish lovers, I know you understand my plight.}

Besides, I had just purchased a pair of these darling faux lettuce plants at Michael’s and I needed something to put one in. I wanted to add a touch of Spring to our coffee counter.

I plopped in the lettuce, surrounded it with moss and added a few speckled eggs. I thought the lettuce needed a cute lookout…

… so I cut out two bunny shapes from some vintage book pages and glued them onto a simple twig.

Ok, maybe a bunny isn’t the best idea for a “lookout” in this mini lettuce patch, but he sure is darn cute. I think it’s the perfect touch of Spring to our coffee counter.

I’ve been using my French Press a lot lately. I forget what a glorious cup of coffee it makes. I made a large cup yesterday to help soothe my raging throat.

I love this little area now. It makes me happy. And isn’t this the sweetest little tin?

It isn’t actually holding seeds, it holds my coffee filters. I brought this back with me from our trip to England.

I was quite the happy camper yesterday…planning and ordering seeds and herbs, drinking my coffee, and cherishing my new little, blue bowl. All while in my jammies. And no, there wasn’t a guilty feeling to be found all day. 🙂

” …finding the joy in the everyday!”
Everyone deserves a pajama day when not feeling well. The spring vignette is so sweet. I bet the bunny makes you smile every time you pass by.
View CommentDebra – it does. I have a passion for bunnies. We raised them on the family farm and well, let’s just say they like to “reproduce.” 😀 Soon we were overrun with bunnies. Thanks for stopping by. xxoo, Barb
View CommentYou’re so creative Barb! I want to make one for my home, too. I really love Lettuce. I didn’t realize it can be decorative until I read your post.
View CommentThank you so much for your sweet words. It is actually a faux lettuce so I don’t have to worry about watering it or it going bad. I got it at Michael’s. It’s so realistic it’s hard to tell its not real. 🙂 But the real lettuce would be just as pretty and if you watered it, it would last a few weeks. Hope this helps. xxoo, barb
View CommentAw that’s the cutest bowl of lettuce I ever did see!
View CommentLOL, thanks Dawn. The little blue bowl makes it look like Happy Little Lettuce. 😀 xxoo, Barb
View CommentLove that little bowl! Cutest ever…I would have had to bring it home also. Vintage book page crafts are my favorite and your little rabbit is perfect. So happy to know someone else who puts coconut oil in their coffee. The best thing ever. Love your Bit of Spring .. Now to add some Spring to my house. Cathy
View CommentCathy – me too. I love vintage book pages. I will tell you a weird secret of mine – I love the smell of them. 😀
View CommentI just had to make a cute little bunny to watch over my lettuce patch. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by. xxoo, barb
That little bowl of lettuce is adorable. I love the little newsprint bunny – he’s a real cutie and a touch of class to the lettuce patch! that is a super cute look! I may have to copy that – now, where did you find that lettuce?
View CommentSoooo cute! Love the look out bunny! I have a dish problem as well! I can not part with any of them! Can’t wait to see your spring ideas. That lettuce looks so pretty and real!

I’m loving that sweet lettuce bowl. The bunny pic is genius! – I need to dig out my french press! It is somewhere buried after our big move. How weird is it that we have the same larger coffee maker?! I like that is has both the large pot, or single cup options. However, we are about to embark on a kitchen reno, and I would like to find a cool high end (looking, not costing) coffee/espresso/latte, etc maker. I want to create a built in coffee bar.
View CommentFor now though, I am going to copy you, and put together a cute spring container too! You are so inspiring! Thanks for your never ending creative ideas! <3
PJ days are the BEST…love the lettuce idea and will share with my garden club. Love the bunny cutout.
View CommentYour spring-lettuce decor is beautiful! Thanks so much for sharing with us at Merry Monday.
View CommentRecently stumbled onto your blog and have been spending my morning (which currently feels like a scene out of “Oz”-I just hope my house is still standing this afternoon!) scrolling through your blog. I too, am a fellow dish/glass hoarder but I lean towards the vintage stuff. It’s really all my Gram’s fault as she gave me a bunch of cute glasses when she sold her house 30 years ago and I started adding to the pattern… Then I found thrift stores and well, I need a support group before my hubby moves out… I am planning a Peter Cottontail theme so I’m hoping to find some lettuce like this ? Thanks for sharing!
