No Sew Sweater Lampshade by The Everyday Home

It’s that time of year again.

Yes, yes…we all know it’s the New Year.

And…the time of year when you’re taking down Christmas

decorations and purging closets and cabinets and drawers.

But, it’s also another time of year.

Winter.

Well, duh!  Laughing

It’s when the house looks bare after all the bling and

glitter from the Holidays.  Things look a little empty and

not so cozy and – well, Baby It’s Cold Outside.

No Sew Sweater Lampshade by The Everyday Home

So… I joined with five other fabulous ladies to bring you

Six No-Sew Ways to Cozy Up Your Home!

I’ll share their links at the end.

SnowflakeBar

I hit up the Thrift Store, and found this fabulous

cableknit sweater.  Marked at $5.90, plus it was 15% off.

I searched for a size Small.

I realize this is a “No-Sew” Showcase, but I took it one step further.

It’s also no-glue.  Surprised

I cut off the sleeves and the collar, saving as much of the

body of the sweater as possible.

No Sew Sweater Lampshade by The Everyday Home

The reason is I wanted to save the sweater to create another project,

and  also I did not want to permanently ruin the shade with glue.

If you were creating a Sweater Shade that is permanent, then you could:

a) trim the body of the sweater so you only had about 2-3 inches to

wrap under the shade’s rims.

b) Use hot glue to secure the sweater in place.

SnowflakeBar

I slipped the sweater up over the shade from the bottom up.

I made small slits at the top so it would fit around the

ribs of the shade.

Then, I broke out the second best thing that any crafter can use

after a glue gun…

{insert tune from popular 80’s song by Vanilla Ice}

“tape, tape, baby…”

Laughing

Yep, I taped it onto the inside of the shade.

I used two rows of tape to make sure it held well.

I know, I know – won’t the heat of the bulb melt the tape?

(etc, etc, etc.)

Maybe if the lamp had a high wattage bulb, but it only

has a 40-watt so it should be fine.

SnowflakeBar

And that’s it!

Five minutes and you have this beautiful, unique,

one-of-a-kind, knock your sweater socks off lampshade.

Talk about adding a warm and cozy touch…

I can’t believe how much I love it.

You could use any kind of sweater and any color to

match your own color scheme.

My hubby come in as I was making this and asked

if Sweater projects were my new fetish.

I said “certainly not, don’t be silly!”

Althoughhhhh…he may be receiving some nifty-thrifty

golf club covers made from leftover sweater sleeves for

his upcoming birthday.

Barb..did you make that beautiful mirror behind your lamp? Is there a tuitorial on your blog about it? Could it be a Kirkland’s purchase? I love their stores but we have to travel almost 1 1/2 to 2 hrs. for the best one at Hagerstown outlets..

This is such a great idea. A sweater shade is a great way to cozy up any room for winter. I especially like that it isn’t permanently attached to the shade.

This is really cool. I’ve seen a lot of sweater pillows, but not lamp shades. Perfect for this time of year!
