The above picture was taken today at “The Fish House.”
This is the name of my brother’s lovely little cottage on the IntraCoastal Waterway. I would have called it
“Slice of Heaven.” 🙂
You can still see traces of leftover snow.

Several months ago, my sister-in-law asked if we wished to
spend a week at The Fish House…with a catch…she asked
if I would consider re-designing it. Needless to say, it was
a glorious week. Fishing… lazy hours sitting on the dock just watching the boats go by… drinking wine while watching
amazing sundowns…and decorating.
Did I mention the decorating?

a glorious week. Fishing… lazy hours sitting on the dock just watching the boats go by… drinking wine while watching

Did I mention the decorating?
I shopped for some fun decorative items, like prints and old signs, etc – but she basically had all of the pieces of furniture.
All this cottage needed was a little re-arranging and re-defining.
My sister-in-law had the darker wood paneling painted a
creamy yellow. The black and white tiled floors are older.
She asked if she should replace them. I replied, perhaps a
little too forcefully….”NO!” 🙂
My brother has a collection of hats…a few of them found their way
onto the walls. 🙂
I mixed as many prints as I could possibly squeeze into one space.
Love the old “No Vacancy” sign. I leaned an old window frame against the wall as the perfect place to display magazines.
A storage room, once cleaned out, presented me with the PERFECT area to add a twin sized bed. Sheers on a tension
rod, and a well-placed bookcase create the illusion of a wall.
She later had the vintage school-house style light fixture
added. Love that!
A closer look…
Love this bedding…it was so fun to work with.
The most expensive accessory she purchased was probably the sea grass wreath. I tucked in a few starfish.
It was a dreamy week…and although there was some work involved…if you know me…it wasn’t “work” at all.
In a few days, I will share the Bedroom and Porch, as well.
I hope you enjoy seeing my “vacation.”….Barb

Now that is what I call a “win win” situation for both of you! It looks like a great place…and a fun one to decorate! Can’t wait to see the rest of the pictures.

It looks great. We share our summerhouse on the intracoastal with some old folks in the family and it is hard to get them ton change….maybe one day we’ll get to spruice things up some too.

Oh, this is my dream home. It doesn’t look too big or too small, and it’s on the water! I love the sleeping alcove you created, what a great idea. The illusion of the wall is perfect. And I LOVE that wreath. Beautiful job Barb, and I’m so glad you convinced them to keep the floors. Love it! Kat

How great to have a wonderful coastal property and a you to help decorate. I love your previous re-decorate posts. I actually went to a meeting to go get my Real Estate license and staging designation, but backed out because of the economy. Right now, I am kicking myself for doubting my abilities.
View CommentThanks so much for the inspiration that I needed to go forward. Did you go to school to re-decorate? I know that sounds dumb, but in PA it is called “staging” designation.

“Slice of heaven” is right! What a gorgeous view! And what a charming vacation home. I would have stamped my foot NO at changing those floors *winks* It’s very warm and inviting. Everything you’d want a little get away to be. Great job Barb! Vanna

Oh Barb, everything looks amazing, what a lovely cottage, and you are so talented. It looks like a pictue layout for a magazine. Now I wish you were here to just take over my house and redo everything, I would love it. Can’t wait to see what else you are working on. Hugs, Marty

When I saw the first picture I thought it was sea foam having swept in behind the Adirondacks. I was worried that they were in danger of getting swept out to sea until I read that it was SNOW! Who would have thought!
