Mother’s Day is in a few weeks!
Because I am the Queen of Procrastination, I decided to
get a jump on making something for the Grandlove’s to give
their Mama. But, I wanted it to be something they took part
in making, not just me making it for them. I also wanted it
to be something which would mark this place in time.
My daughter-in-law is really getting into gardening, and I
wanted to her have her own little Herb Garden for her counter.
So me and the Grands spent the day making this
Painted Herb Pot

This month’s Celebrations of Home Blog Hop is all

I have to admit.
Of all the projects I do, I love it when my babies are involved.
I wish you could have heard the giggling taking place when we
were painting and stamping their handprints on this pot.
Needless to say, there was quite a bit of washing up afterwards.
This project is geared towards Mother’s Day, but simply remove
the little Happy Mother’s Day chalkboard sign and it’s a keepsake
for year round.
I started with a basic terra-cotta pot…
We gave both the pot and the dish two coats of red craft
paint. I used DecoArt Americana Calico Red.
Then, I used a basic white paint to let the grandbabies stamp
their handprints. It was tricky with the two little ones, but
we managed to get them in the first try.
Next, I used a Sharpie Paint pen to write their names and ages.
As an accent, I grabbed a piece of sponge and cut a small
square and stamped a simple checkerboard pattern around the
upper rim. You could also paint this area solid white if you wanted
a contrast.
Once the pot was completely dry, we all went outside and had
fun planting the herbs.
Rosemary, thyme, parsley, oregano, and sage.
Finally, a cute little chalkboard sign with a Mother’s Day
message, and we were done. I will keep the pot watered and give
it ample sunshine until Mother’s Day when they can present this
to their Mama.
Someone didn’t want to wait… 😀
For now, it’s sitting on the countertop by our Farmhouse sink,
and I have to say – I like it a lot.
I think Grammy may have to make one for herself. 😛
Here’s another idea…
Instead of handprints, you could use these Herb Rubber
Stamps to create an alternate look:

But ya’ gotta admit – the little handprints are awfully darn cute.
