Minding Your Tea’s and Cubes!!
So I gotta tell you – when it comes to my beverage of choice – I have two passions.
One is this…
And the other is this….
I love them equally in their own way. So let me tell you how excited I was to find a recipe that was a mix of the two.
Sangria Tea. Mmmmm….heaven in a glass.
As a good Southern girl, I learned to brew tea from an early age. None of that instant stuff. Ewww! And it had to be a perfect blend of brewed tea, water and sugar. Not too syrupy – not too watery – just right. It had to be served ice cold. My mom never serves mint leaves directly in the tea glass, but she always has a small bowl of fresh leaves on the side of the table. I, myself, am a mint kind of gal.
Can we hear another Mmmmmm, boys and girls?
And, of course – what Southern table would be missing these when serving iced tea? (gasp!)
No – there is nothing that will ever replace the simple, refreshing goodness of a tall glass of fresh, brewed iced tea….but I think when you try this recipe – you will find it’s “almost” as nice.
I like to serve this at luncheon’s and bridal showers, etc. It’s always a big hit.
Pink Sangria Iced Tea
2 cups boiling water
4 orange herb tea bags
3 tablespoons sugar
2 cups cranberry juice cocktail
1 cup dry white wine
Pour boiling water over bags and let steep for about 5 minutes. Remove bags from water and stir in sugar. Let cool. Stir in juice and wine.
Serve over ice with a ring of frozen orange slice.
…and speaking of cubes and frozen orange slices…
…instead of using plain ole’ cubes…
…try freezing some whole berries, or thinly sliced citrus. Simply layer a cookie sheet with a piece of parchment, then lay fruit in a single layer and allow to freeze. Frozen fruit is a wonderful way to add a subtle taste to a glass of ice water, also.
Also try this…
For fruit based drinks or teas, pour orange, cranberry, pineapple, etc, juice and tiny sprigs of mint into ice tray and allow to freeze.
Also, try placing raspberries and filling tray with ginger ale. Cool!
I have several of these themed ice trays on hand. It makes for some interesting ice cubes and an unexpected addition to your guest’s drinks.
I hope you enjoyed these simple ideas….
May All Your Days Be Tea-liscious! Barb

How neat to see you here. I love iced tea and your receipes sound so good. I usually do the lazy way of making sun tea, and then drink it all. lol But i do so love a really good iced tea. I will give yours a try. I love lemon ice cubes, and I have never tried the frozen fruit, but they sound good too. Thanks. Hugs, Marty

Barb,
Born and raised in good ole North Carolina, and I consider myself a southern girl, but I could pass on the tea!! Why is that? I grew up with only tea and coffee as the choice of drinks at my house….but I am a coffee lover and when I do drink tea, I would prefer it “mildly” sweet…or unsweetned!! Am I strange?! :o)
But your recipe for sangria tea does sound good!

Oh yeah, a tea girl, for sure! And I do like flavored teas in between meals but give me plain old iced tea (with lemon) for dining!

Loved this post … loved it! I grew up in southern Illinois, but my grandparents were raised in the south … sweet tea was a staple on their lunch and supper tables. I will always order sweet tea whenever I have the option … thanks for sharing.

Hi, Barb, thanks for stopping by! I remember you from way back when you had your other website, Everyday Decorator, so it’s nice to cross paths again. Thanks for the compliments on the corner cabinet, I’m so glad you all like it too.
Not sure about your note that because of my blog you are ‘contacting the designer and now we are talking’? I’d love to know what that meant?? Thanks! Hope you will come back to see me.
