My friend called me today from Colorado Springs, Colorado. She said it was a “balmy” two degrees there today. I remember those days well, from when we lived in Colorado for three, wonderful years. She was just a little peeved to hear I was outside in the yard, much less without a coat. We were all outside enjoying a little bit of fresh air. Grandpa was working on the front porch, and I was cutting some stems of holly make a small arrangement for a friend in the hospital.
A close-up of the holly trees….beautiful!
(I will post this arrangement later – the holly tree is gorgeous this year.)
I had just returned from a morning of shopping with my Mom and Aunt. All the cats were roaming around to supervise our activities. I will say that I thank the Good Lord that we have not had to experience the devastating ice storm/weather those poor souls in the Northeast have had to deal with.
But 70 degrees less than a week before Christmas? 🙂
Welcome to North Carolina! 🙂
This picture does not do this tree justice. This is one of many holly trees we have on our 5 acre property. They are incredible this year – fully loaded with bright red berries.
A close-up of the holly trees….beautiful!
These are hummingbird vines growing up my three birdhouses. Most years, I have already cut them back for the Winter. They are still growing and blooming like mad!
I just can’t bring myself to cut them yet.
I love the miniature yellow, trumpet flowers of these vines.
Even the ivy planted at the base of my birdhouse church is still pretty and green!
This is Baby Lily standing guard to make sure we are all doing our jobs properly.
Cole playing Peek-a-Boo!
Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme…..still pretty and green. I am going to be harvesting these soon, though. And I will show you a great way to have “fresh herbs” throughout the Winter months.
Isn’t the Winter red of this small nandina bush pretty against the bright green cilantro?
Baby Lily had to come down from her guard post to check out the new visitor. After some major sniffing, it was concluded that this strange visitor – who could amazingly stand perfectly still and not blink – was no danger to anyone. All was safe!
I hope you enjoyed my afternoon outside….Blessings, Barb

What beautiful plantings you have. And Baby Lily looks like the perfect guard. The butterfly vines are amazing and the holly tree is just beautiful. How nice to have Christmas decorations right in your yard. Kathy

I love hearing Aaron Neville in the background…the voice of an angel coming out of a big, bad biker-looking guy. Amazing, isn’t he? You better not tbe doing yard work!.Take it easy …hugs..Debbie

What a beautiful afternoon you had. We just got lights back on after the ice we had last night. Dh’s son has the tractor out trying to clear the ice so we can get in and out. It looks like a virtual winter wonderland.. sure wish we could send you just a bit of this cold … Happy Holidays!
