Style.
It’s such a subjective word when it comes to your home.
I am often asked…
“What is the style of your home?”
I was even interviewed once and had to
answer that very question.
You can read that interview HERE.
So, I thought it would be interesting to
ask some Bloggers I know this very question,
and get them to offer some of their best
advice. Here are…
10-Ways to Add Style to Your Home.
1) “I fill every room with things I love.”
I could not agree more with Kim from
Her kitchen above is proof positive that she
lives by this mantra.
Filling your home with collected or beloved decor
means you are less likely to grow tired
of your home, rather than it being filled with
the latest “trends.”
2) “I like stripes, polka dots, plaids, and
animal prints…“
In other words, Heather from
“Southern State of Mind” is saying
“Make it Work!” If you love an eclectic mix of styles
and colors and textures, find a way to make it
all work together. You don’t have to limit yourself to
one particular style.
3) “… pay attention to the details.”
Lori from Designthusiasm says…
“I think the key to personalizing your home is to go past color and furniture and give attention to the details. With exceptional hardware and trim, you move from simply ‘dressing’ a builder’s grade home to upgrading the quality of your living space. It’s like adding jewelry to a classic outfit.”
Check out how she added “personality” to her home HERE.
4) “Add something unique or unexpected
by shopping vintage.”
Dana and Chocolate and Sunshine says:
“Personalize your home with pieces that make you happy. Add something unique or unexpected by shopping vintage. Design a space that looks acquired over time.”
Her home is definitely a reflection of her advice.
5) “Don’t rely on trends.”
Kristi from Chatfield Court says:
“I’ve always created my home’s style by using things that we love and by adding our own special touches and ideas to each room. Color and style trends are fun to read about but if doesn’t fit your true style it will never work for you or your home.”
Her Guest Bedroom Makeover is her own style!
6) “Layers, Layers, Layers”
Sondra with Sondra Lyn at Home says:
“If I could sum up great decorating in one word, it would be ‘Layering’. Using those beloved furnishings and accessories in a way that goes beyond a flat 2-D impression will open up your home to amazing possibilities!”
Look at her amazing Mantel decorated for Fall.
7) “Group like items together for more impact.”
Collections, when grouped together, have so much
more impact rather than scattered around a room.
Jennifer Zuri with Town ‘n Country Living
has some amazing collections in her farmhouse.
8) Fresh Flowers and Plants!
Christy from Our Southern Home says:
“Don’t underestimate the beauty that affordable fresh flowers from
the super market can do for a space.”
She shares how she adds fresh flowers to
her beautiful Southern home HERE.
9) “Don’t forget texture!”
Suzy from Worthing Court says:
10) “Go Big or Go Home!”
“Sometimes, a project can take on a different level
when you go larger than you originally planned.”
The original size of this chalkboard project
is nowhere near the size that was initially planned.
But the larger size created a focal point in the
room I had not planned on. Don’t be afraid to
create a statement wall…or room!
I hope you were able to gather some fabulous and
interesting advice above. As we all know,
there isn’t a right or wrong answer. The only
true design is YOUR design.
