We are well under way at the newest Flip House.
I am actually glad that this one was an easy flip, all cosmetic.
No roofs, no new HVAC, no new hotwater heater and on and on.
Just paint, countertops, flooring, new appliances and a few more changes.
As you know from our last flips, I have a few “trademarks” which can be
found in almost all of our homes. A Board and Batten Wall is one. Here
is a slightly different take from the standard accent wall I like to add.
DIY Board and Batten Accent Wall {Part 1}
There is something slightly different about this particular property, too.
I am steering away from the typical “Farmhouse” style I have used in the past,
and leaning more towards a slightly modern look. I am excited,
It’s a style I do not have within my own home and its allows me to expand my
creativity a bit. Think grays, blues, whites, black and metal accents. It will be fun!
Here is the “Before” wall we started with.
The home was painted in Sherwin Williams Repose Gray.
SW Repose Gray #7015
The only exception was the fireplace wall. The wall, including the
fireplace and surround, were painted a semi-gloss White.
The fireplace itself is already 100% better, huh?
I have a super, easy DIY project for the fireplace surround I will share this
week, also. It’s a $9 upgrade you won’t believe.
We started out with about 10 of these thin pieces of wood called lattice strips.
The hardest part of this project was determining placement.
I knew I wanted “boxes” about 23-25″. So that basically meant I would
only get one full box above the fireplace itself. The wall was so divided by
windows, the “boxes” above the fireplace would be the only complete shapes,
so they needed to be prominent.
We started with the center vertical board first.
Here you can see my very handsome Helper. This project took away from
his gold time, but he survived. 😀
Once we had the center board placed …
The rest of the boards went pretty fast.
We used Liquid Nails and painter’s tape to hold them in place.
We also used our Paslode Nailer to finally secure them.
If you don’t have a Nail Gun, simply use small finishing nails to
secure the strips to the wall.
Once we had all the vertical strips, we just back tracked and added all
of the horizontal strips.
This accent wall is a bit different because of the style I am going for.
Like I said, generally I only add a 2/3-ish height Board ‘n Batten Wall.
Here are some prior homes with examples…
This flip home accent wall will encompass the entire fireplace wall.
I am trying to decide what mirror to hang above the fireplace. I want
a fun modern-ish round design. Which one do you like best?
Choice 1: Art Deco
Choice #2: Una Voce Mirror
Choice #3: Fransisco Mirror
The painter is finishing up this wall and I will be able to share more
in a few days. I can’t wait to stage it, hopefully, this weekend.
I can’t wait to share it with you.

Love the Chairs in the dining room. Where did you find them?
View CommentHi Terri –
View CommentAlmost 80% of the furniture was found at second-hand stores. With the exception of the DR chairs, I found these at Kirklands and they still carry them the last time i checked. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by. ~Barb
