The life of a blogger!
You spend months working on a kitchen remodel,
get it completed and looking just the way you want –
and then the holidays roll around and you
need to break it all down to decorate it all over again.
And, I love it.
😀
Last week I shared one side of my “new” to me
Urban Farmhouse Breakfast Room.
Today, for Farmhouse Friday, I am sharing the other side.
Some of you will recognize my little, blue chest which
I love and have decided to keep.
I want y’all to tell me… should I paint it?
The Breakfast Room Blue Chest
Would you laugh and call me crazy if I told you
I had already mostly disassembled this vignette?
The pretty, blue hydrangea and starfish are being
replaced by mini pumpkins and mums
and colors of Fall.
I can’t wait to share my Kitchen decorated for
Fall in an upcoming Fall Home Tour,
Sept 29th – Oct 2nd.
I will be hosting 25 Bloggers over 5 days…
I am proud to host the
“Fall In Love With Your Home” Tour…
I hope you will join us!
I want to share a little “Before” of our Breakfast Room,
{see my complete Home Tour HERE}
and where we started prior to our little makeover.
There is the same little, blue chest.
And you probably recognize “Cleetus” from last week’s
Breakfast Room Reveal, also.
Here is the new look…
We surrounded the kitchen and breakfast room
walls with crisp white-painted Board ‘n Batten walls.
This area of the home tends to be dark.
It gets afternoon light only.
I thought that adding more crisp, white would help
lighten up the space…and boy did it ever!
I topped the chest with an Ironstone soup tureen,
a metal-tiered stand and some pretty
French Lemonade Bottles.
I love the mini chalkboard style print hanging just
above the chest.
The tiered-stand is filled with Mason Jars stuffed with
blue and white hydrangea, starfish and dried
artichokes. This stand will be fun to
decorate throughout the year and fill with Seasonal decor.
Blue and White dishes collected in England fill the middle tier.
The above pic shows the new chairs which I fell head over heels
in love with. Originally. I had planned on going with a more
neutral design, but these chairs changed all that.
You can also see a small glimpse of the new
window treatments. A Jacobean print
with blues, greens and tans. LOVE!
Don’t you love that pillow?
It’s from The Everyday Home Shop.
So, here is my dilemma.
Do I paint the chest?
I have debated about adding a dark blue glaze so that
the color tone coordinates more with the blues of
the window treatments.
A part of me really (I mean really!) loves the
original color. But, when I see this area as a whole…
a part of me feels the color of the chest doesn’t blend in.
Do I even want it to blend in?
I know, I know.
All First World Problems, huh?
NOW do you understand the life of a blogger?
😀
So what do you think?
Leave it as is… or glaze it?
I would love to hear your thoughts.
And then if anyone would like to
volunteer to come over and help me finish up
my Fall decor next week… I am okay with that, too.
xxoo

No, don’t paint it! The brighter blue (in my mind, at least!) matches quite well with the curtains. The darker blue and the white of the curtains makes that light blue (again, in my mind!) if you were to mix them together. Plus, if it matched in color, it would blend in, so to say, to the curtains and the chair next to it. As it is right now, it stands out just enough to be unique, but matches more than enough to feel like it fits in the space. 🙂

Depends completely on what you are going to do to the bottom blue cabinets in the kitchen, will glazing the chest make it match the cupboards? I think it looks great the way it is and I am not sure you want it to match the cabinets in the kitchen, but maybe the bases should at least be the same family before you glaze the kitchen cabinets. I have always loved that little chest.

Good thoughts. I guess I am leaning towards keeping it, as is. Even Bill said “you have always loved that cabinet.” You can’t tell from the pics but its already glazed with a very mild antiquing. Its not a solid color at all. I will “sleep” on it. LOL xxoo

well Barb, as you know I am nothing if not OPINIONATED lol…
I say paint it white:) then you’re ready for every season and any color or pattern you choose will pop against the white..
jmhp of course.
love that board n batten.. would love that in my own dining nook…

Really? White? You know that was my first inclination but I was too worried it would be too much white, at least for me. I love the added white but I am not an all white gal. I need me some color. LOL Actually, I debated about painting the black cab on the opposite side white, but after it was all set up I left it black. Who knows, next week it may be white. haha Hope you are well. Its good to hear from you, my friend. xxoo, Barb

Love it like it is! I would say no. I am sure you could accent with different colors for each season…just thinking out loud! Blessings, Lynn

Thanks Lynn. I am leaning towards the no, too. As the ole’ saying goes, why fix something that isn’t broke, right? 🙂 Thanks for stopping by. ~Barb

I am NOT an expert decorator by any stretch of the word. But that being said, you did ‘ask’ for opinions. I feel honoured. I would paint it neutral gray, and make it easier to change the colours with the seasons.
View CommentMy friends would think this odd of me, since my colour of choice is WHITE. But here I see a lovely soft gray. Thanks for asking.
*Smiles*
BTW I love that little chest. Keep the numbers, too.

I had not thought if gray but I like gray and that is a great idea. I may think about that. Thanks. 🙂 And thanks for stopping by. ~Barb

Gorgeous! I can’t imagine another color looking better, but I can certainly understand that little itch you get to remake something. My vote is no, until you know you have to. When you fall in love with that perfect color, then it’ll be totally worth repainting! Right now it looks great the way it is.

I love the color just as it is and think it compliments the other shades of blue without being too matchy-matchy. Looking forward to your fall home tour.
