” Home Is Where The Heart Is “
When it comes to home, there may not be any truer words.
A home without a heart is just – well, a house.
It’s where we love, and make memories, celebrate,
heal, we worry, we laugh, reconnect, we grow and we bond.
It’s layers of life that come together to form a place we call home.
I love this time of year for the same reason.
Fall is about adding layers of decor to a home
to create a warm, inviting and cozy atmosphere.
Here is how I add layers…
5 Layers of a Fall Farmhouse Vignette
Before we get started, I wanted to let you know that
I am once again taking part in Farmhouse Friday
with some ah-mazing ladies and fellow bloggers.
This is truly one of my favorite monthly events
because it allows me to showcase my love of Farmhouse
with some other fabulous ladies. I will share all of the
participating bloggers at the end. Please make sure you
visit each one and share the love.

A Farmhouse Fall Vignette | The Everyday Home
No. 1: Texture
Texture is one of the five elements that is probably the
easiest to add. When most people think of texture,
they think of rough things or fuzzy things – tactile objects.
But in fact, texture can be any myriad of surfaces.
In this Fall Vignette above…I layered several textures
all in one setting.
Fabric, wood, metal and the textures of the florals.
The mix of these items creates interest.
No. 2: Scale
It is imperative that you consider your surroundings
when creating a vignette. Using items too large in scale can
overwhelm your vignette. Consider the room, or, for example –
the table or mantel you are accessorizing.
You want your accessories and vignettes to be complimentary
of the spaces they are being displayed on, rather
than being overwhelming.

No. 3: Size
You’re probably asking – isn’t size the same as scale?
Yes, in some ways it is.
But, when I use “size” as an element in my vignettes, it is
in reference to the size of the individual items, and not
the vignette as a whole. For example, I needed to
use the right size of florals in this pitcher, so
they were not off scale to the proportion of the container.

No. 4: Color
I very much consider color one of the most important
elements. Color is what sets the tone of your vignette.
Our breakfast room is primarily blues and
whites and tans. But, adding these autumnal colors
of rusts and oranges and browns is not that
unexpected, considering the season.
Colors can be pulled from the room, or placed according
to a particular time of year. Adding complimentary colors
to your room’s color scheme only adds depth and interest.

No. 5: Relatability
I think it goes without saying that someone would not
think about adding towels and wash cloths and soaps
to a Breakfast Room vignette.
At least – I would hope not.
😀
Do the elements of the vignette relate to the space?
Do they relate to the style or theme of the room?
How does the vignette fit in with what you are trying to convey?

Here’s How I Created a Farmhouse Fall Vignette…
I pulled this Fall vignette together in about 30-minutes.
I layered a burlap runner over some cream colored-ticking fabric.
Then, a maple chopping block followed by a galvanized tray.
Textures, Scale and Size.

Red apples, green pears and soft, white candlelight.

Fall vignette that perfectly relates to the style of our home.
Think about these five design elements the next time you are
creating a vignette. Don’t be afraid to experiment
with especially with lots of layers.
