Welcome to Mason Jar Monday!
I am asked all the time if I think the Mason Jar
“fad” will fade away.
I don’t have the answer to that, but until it does I
am going to enjoy them.
I can’t help it.
I heart Mason Jars.
So I hope you will join me for
Mason Jar Mondays!
I am showcasing a cute project I made this week.
It’s a pin cushion slash sewing kit.
I wanted something cute and Mason Jar-y that
would allow me to gather some basic sewing needs into
one cute container…
No Sew Mason Jar Pin Cushion
I am joining six other beautiful ladies today
for a
No – Sew Showcase :
Summer Edition
There will be clickable thumbnails at the bottom
of this post which will allow you to visit each
of these ladies.
Please make sure you don’t miss a single project!
Let’s get started …
I chose a tall and skinny Mason Jar for this project.
I cut out a circle of fabric about the size of a
salad plate, or about 2″ wider than the lid
of the jar.
Using a needle and thread –
(ok, I did sew a wee bit – lol)
… simply run a basic in-and-out stitch all around the
outside of the fabric circle, so that when you pull on the
string, it gathers the circle up into a “ball.”
Now, stuff the inside of the fabric ball with batting,
then pull the thread tighter to close off the opening.
Then, all you need to do is push the stuffed ball thru
the lid of the jar. Add a bead of hot glue all the
way around.
Finally, add a generous amount of glue
onto the top of the jar lid, and push the lid into
place to hold the fabric ball in place.
I created a cute, little tag with a stamped
scissor design. I tied on some ribbon which
coordinated with the pin cushion fabric,
and tied on the tag.
This whole project took me about 20 minutes.
You could use any fabric and ribbon to coordinate
with your home.
Wouldn’t these make cute gifts?
I can’t wait to share more Mason Jar Monday
ideas with you in the future.

Not only is it cute, but your mason jar pincushion is handy too with the storage for thread, needles, etc!

I absolutely LOVE these? May I ask you where you found the fabric and the blue ribbon trimmed in the burlap? You are so creative!!
View CommentBarb says
Hi Suzie thank you. The fabric is actually an IKEA kitchen hand towel I had previously cut up, and he ribbon is from Hobby Lobby. 🙂 Hope this helps. Thanks for stopping by. ~Barb

Great idea! I really have to do this with at least one of the Mason jars that’s hanging around my craft room.

I love the irony of a nearly-no-sew pin cushion (for sewing). I also love mason jars with a love that is eternal and will never fade. Not sure about the colored ones or some of the weird crafts people are making with them, but mason jars have been around for a very long time and are still kicking.

Melissa – I like to say that I loved Mason Jars before Mason Jar were cool. I was raised on a farm and mason jars were a huge part of our lives in so many ways. I will always have Mason Jars in my house and in my life. 🙂
Thanks for stopping by. ~Barb

Such a cute little sewing jar! I made a much smaller version of one of these a few year ago for my sewing pins. I couldn’t take spilling them on the floor anymore! Thank you so much for sharing at Dream. Create. Inspire. Link! I hope we’ll see you there again this week!
