I find it fascinating that your tastes change as you grow older.
When we lived in Europe over 10 years ago, I could not
stand the taste of eau minérale .
Or gassy water.
Eau Minérale is served as freely as wine at
most French Bistros and European Cafés.
I found it odd that you had to pay extra for regular tap water
or bottled water, but generally gassy water was free.
On our recent trip to England this past Christmas, my waiter accidentally brought me gassy water and guess what?
I LOVED it.
🙂
The Hubbs just rolled his eyes.
In one of the motels which I shared with you after our trip,
they had bottles of gassy water in the room and if you wanted a refill you simply called room service.
The same was true at all of the restaurants we visited.
They just took your glass bottle away and brought it back refilled.
I wonder why gassy water has not caught on here in the States as much, considering how much carbonated beverages are consumed.
Once back in the States, I searched out a Sparkling water
which suited my tastes.
What I have discovered is that I am more of a Pellegrino-gal
than a Perrier-gal.
I like both, but Pellegrino seems to have that special
“something-something” about it.
I love the smaller, convenient bottles I can keep at work.
One of my favorite refreshing drinks is adding one of my
favorite juices…cranberry juice.
I love a cranberry-lime sparkler.
I don’t have a recipe per say, I just fill a glass with ice, add about 2/3 of Pellegrino and 1/3 cranberry juice, then add a squeeze of fresh lime.
I am making these for my July 4th BBQ, and I am going to try adding some rosemary sprigs and frozen blueberries (for a touch of blue.)
(see, isn’t this pretty?)
Are you a sparkling water kinda gal?
I’d love to hear some of your recipes.
I’d love to hear some of your recipes.
I found a recipe for a Blood Orange Mojito which
uses sparkling water.
uses sparkling water.
But, I don’t think blood oranges are
too plentiful around here. 🙂
I may experiment with this recipe though.
I injured my leg today unexpectedly.
I think I pulled a calf muscle.
It was a freaky kind of thing. All I did was step down from
our front steps. No tripping or falling involved –
just a regular step down.
I am sitting here with “Ice on, Ice off” and my leg
propped up. We head out tomorrow bright early for a trip to
Williamsburg, VA to Busch Gardens and
Water Country, USA.
Oy!
This injury is going to make things interesting.
I see one of those electrical carts in my near future.
🙂
I hope you’re having a wonderful weekend. When I get back on Monday, I will have a newly painted Living Room in
Bird Song Blue. So excited.
xxoo, Barb

I do like sparkling water. I found it funny that they called it with gas or without gad in Italy. I like with, but I want it on ice and they don’t normally use ice there. That was one thing I missed over there. Hope your leg doesn’t mess up your getaway.

Love San Pellegrino! However, I am currently addicted to LaCroix sparkling water; it comes in a variety of flavors! Grapefruit is my current favorite!

Lover of the sparkling water also though I don’t drink it regularly=just when I want something special-love it with just a squeeze of lime.

Pellegrino is my all time favorite…I prefer that to any soft drink!…Can’t wait to see the “newer” newly painted living room….Take care of that leg!!! Have fun with “the boys”….

Oooh, I hope your leg feels better today, Barb. I never liked gassy water, but I haven’t tried it again in years. I did buy a bottle of a French Raspberry Lemonade that was gassy and came in a bottle like the one you show on that tray. I kind of liked it. I would probably add juice like you did with the cranberry juice.

I love sparkling water, I like to drink blu-Italy from Trader Joes or Alhambra lime, it is actually sparkling spring water, it is not as minerally tasting. I always have lime or lemon cut for mine. Love it!!
View CommentSo sorry about your leg, bad timing for sure, hope you can get around on your trip with the boys. Take care sweetie, xo Kathysue

I’m a sparkling water kinda gal, too…especially San Pellegrino. I also like lime seltzer water from Publix.
View CommentHope your leg is better by now and that you didn’t get “rained out” in VA.

Hi Barb, my first taste of “gaz” was many years ago when my hubby and I traveled to Switzerland. The host did not speak English and when we ordered water to drink, she said “gaz” and we continue to use that term today and drink it around here like, well, like water! I like San Pellegrino too among others. Too bad about your leg! Hope you feel better soon. Williamsburg is a favorite destination for us! Linda

San Pelegrino is the epitome of great, sparkling water. Those Dolomite mountains know their way:)Perrier a great second.Le croix, and other brands ,personally are just terrible. There is something about Pelegrino, a feeling that your are tasting a forbidding elixir. An archaic healing aqua.
