Halloween Cupcakes in a Jar
Using a mason jar to bake cupcakes is a bit unconventional, but they come out extra moist and let’s face it – they are cute, too. These Halloween Cupcakes in a Jar are an ease to decorate.
My collection of mason jars is a little – shall we say – obsessive. But I assure you they’re not all used for decorations. Some uses are practical and other uses are for organizational projects. I still love to use them for sheer fun, and these Halloween Cupcakes meet that need.
I am beginning to think my obsession with Mason Jars is more a weakness for something that brings back childhood memories. No, Mama didn’t bake cupcakes in jars but she did preserve everything she could possibly grow in her garden …and I can’t help but think of all those days in her kitchen on hot Summer days – canning her Summer’s Bounty. Today, I am sharing a cute baking project for Halloween.

I started out with a basic white cake mix. Nope. I did not use a from-scratch secret family recipe for these Halloween Cupcakes in a Jar. I love to bake, but not THAT much. LOL I mixed two boxes of white cake mix in two separate bowls, and using these

… I colored one bowl of batter bright yellow and the second bowl bright orange. I cannot stress enough…only fill the jars about half-full or maybe a tad more. Take it from my baking FAIL, they will overflow and get orange and yellow batter all over the bottom of your oven which will in turn set off the smoke detector, causing you to make a trip to the grocery store to get more cupcake ingredients. (Just saying!)
I baked them for 350 degrees until a wood skewer was clean. I am guessing about 20-25 mins, but all ovens vary so keep your eye out.
I added a cute “candy corn” color tag on some Halloween-ish check ribbon….
… and these cute glittered bats on a stick. 😀
I had some leftover batter, so I baked some plain cupcakes. I cut the cupcake into thirds. I placed the first layer of the baked cupcake into the bottom of a small mason jar, piped a layer of icing, added the second layer of cupcake, piped icing, and finally added the top of the cupcake and third layer of icing and added sprinkles.
‘Cause what’s a cuppie without sprinkles? 🙂
And that’s it.
Two Halloween Cupcakes in a Jar.
A “Candy Corn” Cupcake in a Jar and a Layered Cupcake in a Jar.
Two easy cupcakes. Eye-pleasing results.

The looks so delish! You know I have ate a cupcake in a mason jar but I’ve never made one before. Need to add that to my list! For my sister’s wedding 3 years ago we made 125 mason jar apple pies as favors.
