Once again, calm reigns through The Everyday Home.
There is a short period of time between the decor being put out and just before the Christmas festivities start – where the house is clean and sparkly and the walls are decked to the brim with as much fa-la-la as one home can get. The white lights are twinkling, the table is set, and Christmas music is playing softly in the background. And there is peace and calmness in the air. At least for a few days. 🙂 Today, I am sharing our Pretty in Plaid Christmas Tablescape.

Before I get started sharing my Tablescape, I just wanted you to know that I am so happy to be taking part of SondraLyn at Home’s Home for the Holidays Tour. Today is Day 5, and there have been some amazing and incredibly inspiring projects shared since Monday. Please take a moment to visit these blogs which will be listed below.

I am also linking up this tablescape to my dear friend. Jennifer Rizzo’s Holiday Housewalk 2016 Linky Party. I would greatly appreciate your votes so I could grab a spot in next year’s Holiday Housewalk. Would you please take the time to go vote for me here —-> Jennifer Rizzo’s Holiday Housewalk Link Party

When I shared our Christmas Mantel, I confessed that I was truly stumped when it came to our 2016 decor. The inspiration just wasn’t there for some reason. I took a look back at last year’s decor, but that didn’t help me. In fact, it made it worse. I LOVED last year’s decor with the Tartan Plaid and Houndstooth patterns. How would I ever beat that?
But once I found the red, mercury candleholders for the mantel, I just knew they had to be part of the table, as well. I also found some amazing silver, mercury lanterns that just begged me to bring them home. No truly, they “spoke” to me. 🙂
While I originally thought my decor would be a bit more rustic in design, the mercury glass added an unexpected bit of bling and sparkle, and that set me off on a whole other spectrum of design. So come with me as we tour my Pretty in Plaid Christmas Tablescape.
I generally use a tablecloth on our formal table prior to creating a tablescape. This year, for some reason, I liked the look of the dark wood table showing. So instead, I used two plaid table runners down the center. I used the same Hobby Lobby red plates that I used on the breakfast room’s Jolly Ole’ Santa Tablescape in the Breakfast Room which I found at Hobby Lobby, with some silver chargers and plain white plates.
Can I tell you how much I adore these tiny black lantern votive holders I found at a local shop? I knew they would be perfect in the center of each place setting with a pretty berry ring and a sprig of cedar.
I used a large, white IKEA lantern in the center, but instead of a candle like I used for the Fall Tablescape, I added a wintry berry tree inside.
I have to say, the greenery down the middle of the table makes my creative heart do a little flip-flop when I look at it. It isn’t a garland. Its several smaller floral picks and cuttings of different types of faux greenery. I also added red berry prigs and finally – feathers.
I just love how the table ties into our Festive and Plaid Mantel…
The silver mercury lanterns were added on each side, and finally the red mercury candlesticks were placed on each end.
My sweet Mama and my sister came over earlier today as I was taking these images. They are two of my biggest blog fans. I loved showing Mama how the red mercury candlesticks looked on both the mantel and the table.
The day we went shopping and I found these candlesticks was one I will always remember. It was just me and my Mama, laughing and having fun and enjoying a day out Christmas shopping. I know this time of year is hard on her, as this is the first holiday season without my precious Daddy. But that day, we were able, if just for a little while, to forget our sadness and just enjoy being together.
The best compliment I got from her was that she said our home put her in the Christmas spirit. I knew she had been contemplating not even putting up a tree. And my Mama loves Christmas.
It has also made me come to another realization. There is something special about sparkling lights and tables and walls decked with Christmas that makes you want to be part of it. Almost every single night since the decor went up, The Hubbs and I have made it a point to turn off the television and the outside world, and just enjoy the quiet and the calm.
Next weekend, we are expecting over 30 guests into our home for a Christmas party. Next week will be mayhem…the final cleaning, lots of baking, tons of cooking. But for now, I am enjoying a few more evenings sitting in our home, with Bing crooning us in the background – just me and the love of my life. Counting our blessings.
Thank you for spending a few minutes of your day here with me. During this busy season, I hope you are still able to…
“… find joy in the everyday!”
xxoo, barb

Oh, Barb, your table is gorgeous! I don’t blame you for using those candlesticks as inspiration… love them! And I’m so glad it gave your mom such joy to see your decorations. Only after we lost my mom did I realize how much she enhanced my joy of decorating… I knew she would appreciate it, so it added to my satisfaction in doing it.
So glad you could join in the HFTH tour again this year!! Hugs!

Hey Barb,
Your table is so classic in all its plaid splendor! And while I know this Christmas will be tough on your family, it does sound like your beautiful home and its decorations will help to distract her a bit.
And you have prompted me to set aside some time to sit in our den with the lights on our tree and enjoy the company of my hubby too. We get so caught up in all the goings-ons and I need to be reminded to sit and just be.
Have a wonderful party.
Hugs, Lynn
