To me, the area of my home which causes me the most trouble after packing up the last of the Christmas ornaments is the mantle.
(remember we went to England for Christmas 2012 – hence no decorating)
…my homage to all things natural.
FORMAL DINING ROOM MANTLE…
Here is a close-up…
FAMILY ROOM MANTLE:
Hydrangeas, green pears, pine, and beautiful lanterns.
See what I mean! That was easy!
Btw, I painted my unsightly brick fireplace white in an effort to camouflage it. Ok, maybe not camouflage, but I couldn’t stand another day of that hideous brick anymore.
Still working on ideas for that – just like I have been for
over a year. LOL (hey, what can I say – I am a thinker!)
I wanted to do some research tonight so I could gather my items
in the upcoming days, and make this my weekend project.
Fall = Leaves and Pumpkins and Gourds;
Spring = Tulips and Eggs and Bunnies;
Summer = Daisies and Sunflowers.
especially when my area is not rally known for a lot of snow, etc?
I prefer winter and fall, when you feel the bone structure of the landscape – the loneliness of it, the dead feeling of winter. Something waits beneath it, the whole story doesn’t show. ~Andrew Wyeth
Don’t you love that mirror?
Here are a few other mantles I thought represented a Winter feel.
So how is your mantle decorated? What inspired you? I’d love to hear your ideas and comments.
Oh and by the way, I am very excited to introduce our newest “family member” who currently adorns the Dining Room fireplace.
I think you will fall in love with him as much as I have.
Stay tuned!
🙂

Oh Barb, your mantels are always unreal, I always love them. I think the first one (Pottery Barn) of your inspiration pics is definitely my favorite, but maybe it’s just because I love that mirror. Hope your day has been a super one. Hugs, Marty

Hi Barb..
I was talking to a friend of mine in High Point this morning.. I just had to come here and tell ya- the latest rage is gonna be- Wood countertops:) I know you want to change yours to granite- I think you said that in your kitchen post , so just wanted to let ya know that what you have NOW is soon to be the IN thing… not trying to sway your choices, just thought you might want to know..

I agree, Barb. My mantel always seems so bare after all the Christmas greenery has been removed. I love the Pottery Barn mantel….I think I may borrow an idea or two..

Hi Barb-
I have a question (as usual)!
All of your inspiration photos are of a lighter palette.
Are you headed that direction?
Do you still have red in your house?
