This is the time of year when you feel like Summer is officially over.
Labor Day weekend is quickly approaching. The nights are a little cooler.
I even saw a few leaves that have taken on a yellowish hue.
And for many of us, it feels like Summer is over because our little ones
(and not so little ones) are heading back to school.
My sweet Grandlove this morning on his first day of 2d grade.
He doesn’t look very happy does he?
And let’s not forget the ultimate indicator that let’s us know that Summer
must be over. Michael’s has Fall decor in stock.
But, here in Eastern NC – we still have a few more weeks of Summer.
Which means I will still have a few more weeks to cook out on my
beloved grill.
I was contacted by Pepsi to showcase a campaign they have going on for
their consumers called Pepsi’s Iconic Summer Moments.
#iconicmoments
Pepsi is giving away a Prize Package to one of my lucky winners, which includes
a nifty iPhone Case.
And while Pepsi is probably one of your choice Summer beverages, and grilling
is also a choice way of cooking for Summer… what does Pepsi and grilling
have in common?
BBQ Sauce.
Yep.
That zesty-sweet sauce you mop onto chicken and ribs and steaks and plop
onto a hot grill until the sauce becomes an ooey-gooey glaze you just can’t
help but lick off your fingers.
THAT kind of BBQ Sauce.
I agreed to share my Sassy Southern BBQ Sauce that is made with –
you got it! Pepsi!
Did you know Pepsi was born in North Carolina in 1893? In a town called
New Bern, about 45 minutes from where I live.
Growing up on a tobacco farm, a Pepsi was always part of the 10am field break.
A Pepsi and a nab. (you non-Southerners may have to Google what a nab is.)
So what is Sassy Southern BBQ Sauce? It’s a sweet, garlicky, oniony,
tomatoey concoction with just a touch of thyme and a pinch of cayenne.
I make it in batches and keep it in my fridge. It’s great on chicken, chops,
burgers and we love it in bbq baked beans. It turns ordinary food into
sassy food.
It’s easy to prepare. You can mix it all up in a sauce pot and slap it on your
meat within minutes, but I like to let mine simmer for about an hour, until
it reaches that beautiful dark BBQ color.
If you are a lover of BBQ sauce, you will love this recipe. I add a dash of
cayenne, but you can adjust the heat as desired. I personally like to retain
my taste buds, unlike my Hubby and son who has a gut of steel.
“Some like it HOT!”
If you would like to win a Pepsi Prize Package, simply leave me a comment
below telling me what is your favorite BBQ dish.

Sassy Southern Sauce, that is.

I hope you enjoy it as much as my family does!

I love most any meat on the grill, and will try your sauce on steaks next weekend, but must admit my summer grill favorite is corn. I also pour a can of cola on my ham when baking.
