We are hosting a large Christmas party for friends in about a week.
So naturally, I wanted our foyer to be knock-your-socks-off pretty when they walked into our front door. On one of my recent Christmas shopping forays with my sweet Mama, I spotted this amazing, white fur runner. I picked it up, put it down. Picked it back up, rubbed it, and put it back down. I walked around HomeGoods and just could not get that fur runner off my mind. “What would you do with it, Barb?” I asked myself. And then, I remembered the glittered-roof houses and twig trees I purchased last year after Christmas for 80% off. Certainly, those houses and trees needed a soft, furry runner to sit on, correct? (Isn’t it amazing how we talk ourselves into buying these things?) Ha! But, this time – I was right. Welcome to our Frosted Winter Christmas Foyer.
…………………………………………………………….
So I have a small confession. I almost didn’t post these pictures. Our foyer is one of the absolute hardest of all rooms to photograph. I have a very small window of good lighting because of our front porch overhang. But, I have to say, this area of our home now has the softest glow because of the white lights of the garland and wreath.
The walls are painted a soft butter color, but the late afternoon sun mixed with the white lights creates this golden aura throughout the foyer. And the nighttime hours are just as magical. So, I decided to share these images anyway. I want you to get a feel for how our home looks and feels throughout the day and into the night, as well.
I have always called the front room off of our Foyer our Morning Room because it’s not unusual for me and The Hubbs to come in here and drink our morning coffee and read the paper. There is an amazing amount of morning light which streams in through a large arched window. (I will share our Living Room in a few days) But, we now find ourselves turning off the television, turning on some Christmas music, and sitting here in the early evening hours and watching the sun fade away.
The glow of the Foyer, looking from the Living Room is so peaceful and calm. So in some ways, the Frosty Winter Foyer theme was perfect for that space. This little vignette, situated on a vintage bowfront chest, reminds us of when we lived in Europe and spent a Christmas in Austria.
We had driven all day in a snowstorm, and arrived in Salzburg, Austria (where the Sound of Music was filmed) right at dusk. There was fresh, fallen snow throughout the city. People were rushing about to get home, the shop lights were twinkling onto the cobblestone streets, and beautiful Christmas decorations hanging from history-laden structures were breathtaking. Even our travel-weary 11-year old son was awestruck.
Everything had a blanket of snow on it. It was a picture postcard scene of a Winter Wonderland, and we were blessed to spend a week there.
When I was putting together this vignette, I tried to think of that trip to Austria. What would invoke a Frosty, Winter Village? I gathered my glitter-topped houses and twig trees, as well as some mercury glass trees and votive holders.
Last year, I used the white sequined stag head in our Living Room. I knew his “sparkling personality” was perfect here.
The final touch was small, glitter bottle brush trees tucked in…
We are excited to have our friends over in a few days for good food and a few frivolities and a chance to share our home with them. I hope this Frosty, Winter Foyer Vignette makes them feel as joyful and lighthearted as it makes me feel.
And I hope you enjoyed seeing our Foyer after sunset, too.
Thank you, my dear friends, for spending a few minutes of your day here with me.
I hope that during this hectic time of hustle and bustle, you are able to …
“…find the joy in the everyday!” xxoo, barb

OMGosh… I L-O-V-E the mantel. White and Silver just scream Christmas to me. I live in Austin, Texas and we don’t see a lot of snow during the Holidays, and since I was raised all my young life in MONTANA, I miss the beautiful white cold frozen stuff. The little glitter trees sparkling a thousand rays of twinkle tickle my heart. The fur runner is… well there’s just one word… A-W-E-S-O-M-E! Its absolutely lovely. Thank you for sharing. AND… P.S. I think your photography is lovely too!

First I would like to say “Good Call” on the runner. I remember reading an article a long time ago from an avid collector and her husband, that you always remember the one that got away! Second, I absolutely loved your display but what I loved more was your story of Christmas in Austria. I traveled there with you but only wish I would truly visit there! And lastly, thank you for sharing your pictures. While you thought the lighting was not so good, I saw a warm and inviting home that I would love to visit. Your guests will feel the same!

Loved visiting Salzburg in the fall a few years ago! Love your touch of Salzburg. And really like the twig trees! Where did you find them? Hope we’re in our new house in time to decorate some for Christmas!
View CommentBarb says
Oh Connie – wasn’t Salzburg the best? I’d love to go back in the Spring or Summer and see it with all the flowers in bloom. I am sorry. I cannot remember where I got the trees. I think maybe Hobby Lobby? It was last year after Christmas and I got them for 80% off. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by. ~Barb

Barb I love the white look it is so fresh and simple. But stunning at the same time. I wanted to get some of these houses, they are my favorite ornaments of the year, and I found them but they were in metal. Maybe I’ll spray paint them because your white houses look better!
