How to Make an Easy Bird Nest
There are some things in life I simply cannot get enough of when it comes to this time of year.
Moss.
Moss and eggs.
Moss, eggs and bird nests.
See what I mean? I just can’t help myself.
That is why this project is so perfect for me. The best part is that you really do not have the need to spend a large amount of money on this project.
I shared a Forsythia Wreath I made for my Spring Porch Reveal yesterday and the wreath featured one of my Bird Nest…
(vintage wire basket planted with Spring goodness)
These Bird Nests are so incredibly to make and once you start you will be making them for everywhere in your home.
Here are the supplies I used:
I purchased a large grapevine nest. This one is large – about 6″ wide. I also purchased a bag of reindeer moss (LOVE that stuff!) and a small package of speckled pastel eggs. (LOVE these, also) Did I mention above I have some fetish issues?
It took me all of 5 minutes to put this nest together…
I cut a sprig of variegated silk ivy into smaller 3-5″ pieces and
attached them around the edge of the nest with my low temp glue gun.
Already pretty, huh?
Next, I glued on a few pieces of forsythia which had fallen out
of the stems when I was making my wreath.
Using my reindeer moss, I used smaller pieces and glued them
randomly around the edge, as if the moss was growing onto the nest.
I needed a little “nest” in my nest for the eggs…so I filled it with
larger clumps of moss, also glued into place.
Finally, the speckled eggs were glued into place, as well.
I tell ya’ – easy crafts like this make my heart go pitter-patter.
This is the kind of decor I will leave out until I decorate for Fall.
It’s what I call a “Happy Craft.”
When I originally made this it was for my Spring wreath. But, I loved it so much I made several
and placed one on my coffee table on a vintage, glass candleholder.
It’s shown here with one of my favorite Bunny.
Here is a close-up of the “Nest Topiary.”
The Forsythia Wreath needed a little “something-something” and I knew the
Bird Nest with Speckled Eggs would be that perfect “something.”
And I wasn’t wrong.

So cheerful, and such an easy DIY! I just happened to have an extra grapevine birds nest, so now I know exactly how to embellish it and use it to decorate a blank space on my screened porch! Thanks for the tutorial and inspiration!!

This bird’s nest is great! I have a little boy who loves to go bird watching (he even has his own binoculars!). I think he would love to see a little bird decor mixed in with all our rabbits. Thank you so much for sharing!
