Do you have a room in your home you just simply migrate to?
You can’t explain it, but something just pulls you in and makes you want to snuggle down with some tea and a book and a cozy throw and lull away the afternoon. That’s our Living Room. Especially this time of year where there’s a soft glow from white lights and fur pillows on the loveseat, and little stocking pillows in the blue, Velvet chairs. Come on in – I’ll fix you a cup of tea and grab you a throw, too. I even have Kenny Loggins Christmas music playing in the background. Welcome to our Living Room for Christmas in Reds and Blues.
……………………………………………………
Last Christmas, the only thing in this room were the blue Velvet Chairs, antique English hutch and my antique clawfoot desk. This room was the “undecided” room. Was it a Living Room, was it a Sitting Room…was it the soon-to-be Library? I didn’t know, but somewhere along the way I knew I had to have a completed room for the holidays, especially when it was right off the front door.
So, I added a basic tan loveseat from our stash of House Flipping furniture, bought a new 5×7 rug from The Home Depot and added a small round table, the first antique I was given by my Mama at age 16. Just these three basic pieces seemed to be what the room needed and was asking for.
This room is also where I display a large amount of my collection of blue and white Staffordshire. So it was only natural that the color theme be blue with liberal splashes of red. I added lots of pillows…fur pillows and blue denim pillows and a pretty Santa pillow…
…and then I added some easy DIY Sweater Stocking Pillows in the navy velvet chairs.
I also added some red snowflake-pattern runners on the backs of the chairs along with a pretty tartan blue throw.
The antique English hutch received a lush greenery “crown” at the top with DIY Boxwood wreaths. I used a combination of red check ribbon hangers and snowflake ribbon bows to hang the wreaths on the front of the doors.
On the ledge of the hutch, I used faux greenery and berries, two silver reindeer, some pinecones and a single, large plaid ornament tucked in. Simple but classic.
The antique round table my mama gave me was dressed simply, also. A blue and white soup tureen is planted with a lemon cedar topiary, a handsome red reindeer and one of my favorite small oval blue and white plates.
I have mentioned before that this is the room where me and The Hubbs often migrate to in the morning. It’s become a morning ritual. I make the coffee and he goes out and retrieves the paper. The lights around the arched window stay on all the time, and lots of morning sun streams in. I added a multi-layered garland with frosted greenery and red berries…
I used the same wreath as I used last year, but added a red check bow. See how I made this Easy DIY 3-Step Wreath here.
He reads the paper, I read my emails and we enjoy coffee. Quietly and peacefully enjoying the morning.
As I have gotten older, I have come to realize that the quiet moments to reflect and just enjoy the opportunity to enjoy the “everyday” are quite valuable.
(does anyone see an item that is NOT supposed to be in this picture above? :-D)
We just hosted a large Christmas party with many of our friends this past Saturday. I loved every minute of having friends over to celebrate Christmas.
Afterwards, when everyone was gone, me and The Hubbs fixed some cocoa (and it *may* have included some kahlua lol) – and went into the Living Room and sat down, and took a deep breath. There were glasses that needed to be washed; food that needed to be packed away; and serving trays needed to be gathered up – but that didn’t matter. We talked about what amazing friends we had in our lives, and how special it was to have them all gathered under our roof during Christmas. Sitting there, in a room decorated in red and blue with glistening white lights – I bowed my head and thanked Our Father for our many blessings. And many they are indeed.
Thank you for allowing me to share our Christmas Living Room in Reds and Blues with you. Tomorrow, I will be sharing our Christmas Front Porch and have a Live Video of our porch and our yard at night. So fun! Hope you come back for another visit! xxoo, Barb

Love this room! Especially love the blue velvet chairs. If I could find those exact chairs in a teal blue color, I’d be a very happy girl! I also love how you added the stocking pillows, they really pop against the blue chairs. Very nice room!

SO very, very, pretty! You really have the magic touch, Barb. You’ve dressed this room perfectly to take advantage of all your beautiful Staffordshire china. Gorgeous!
And if you’re gonna have a red solo cup tucked behind the furniture, at least it matches the room, huh?
So glad your party went well!
