Some days, my hoarding comes in handy.
It’s moments when I remember that “something” I just didn’t want to part with because surely there is a project or craft that I will eventually need it for I have what is called the “What If” Syndrome and I also suffer from “OneDay-itis.”
Or, in other words…
“What If I May Need This One Day?”
😀
Today is one of those good days, though, where I pat myself on my back and say to myself …“Yay me!” I am sharing with you how I created my….
Farmhouse Harvest Platter.
………………………………
Last year, I broke one of my favorite cake stands. It toppled over and the top part came off and shattered, leaving only the bottom base.
But me being me – I couldn’t throw it away. So into the cabinet it went with certainty it would be used again one day. This month, Farmhouse Friday is all about “plates.” Whistles and bells went off and I knew exactly what I would do with my leftover, hoarded, cake stand base.
I grabbed one of my favorite Staffordshire Blue and White Plates. It’s from the Liberty Blue series and I have several pieces I collected when we lived in Europe.
After about twenty minutes of digging thru one of my 3,000 crafts boxes, I found some poster putty. I used it to temporary secure the platter to the cake plate base.
I wanted to create a Fall Harvest Platter, but I also wanted it to blend in with the other blue and white I already have displayed in the room.
Plus, I love the way blue and white mixes with autumnal colors and splashes of red. So after laying down a bed of moss and green pears, I added dried hydrangea (a staple of this year’s decor). I tucked in a few acorns and finished the platter with some tendrils of grapevine.
I didn’t spend a dime and simply used what I had on hand. Blues and Greens with a touch of red.
I am always shifting things around. When I first started decorating for Fall, I had my Succulent Filled Pumpkin Planter on my little blue Breakfast Room Chest.
I have since moved this to another location, and I love how this looks and pulls in more blue and white.
If you remember, at one point I had asked your opinions on whether I should paint this little chest or not.
I think this Farmhouse Harvest Platter could even carry me through Christmas with some little changes. I think some mini pinecones in place of the acorns would be perfect, don’t you?
I am sure you have already figured out the fruit is faux, but I do declare – this is some amazingly real looking fruit. And best of all, no rotting fruit to replace. 😀
I have a secret. This arrangement makes me want to pull out some other “hoarded” pieces and see what other arrangements
I can make for free.
How are your Fall decorations coming along? Are you just starting or almost done?
I’d love to hear what you’re up to.

I did visit all of the sites and ironstone is the common element that I really love. I have found two new blogs to follow, including yours. Happy day!

I love the white dish theme throughout many of these blogs. I guess I never thought about something as simple as “white” being a unifying theme for an eclectic set of dishes. I have a few white ones now and my “project” will be collecting much more of them and playing with these decorating ideas!

I love that you have the blue and white plates in your breakfast room. I have always liked that color combo, it’s so bright and cheerful!
But I’m not sure I appreciate being part of “that time of the month” 🙂 I thought I was over all that stuff!

Great cake stand! Adore the blue. And your fruit is beautiful. I am having fruit envy as I have been invaded by the gnats. I love to put my fruit out on the cabinet, but I think I better invest in some ‘faux’.

I loved the idea of just buying the salad plates in a fall decor and pairing them with white plates we already have. Keeps us from having to buy a whole set of seasonal China. Many great ideas.

Enjoyed all the blogs. Working with dishes is a lot of fun and it was interesting to see everyone’s ideas…..I like to set the table a few days before an occasion to enjoy the look of the Chargers with the plates and table scape. I do like the cake stand platter idea and have really liked Yvonne’s cake stand post recently and incorporated that in my last table setting to put my centerpiece vase on.

It looks great! I love the blue and white! Sometimes we really have to get our creative juices flowing by using what we already have and you did it beautifully!

I love shopping at thrift stores for inexpensive dinnerware. It’s fun to mix similar colors and designs, and a few new plates can give your table a whole new look. And I LOVE your Staffordshire blue and white plates!

Barb, just love all your ideas! What a lovely job you did with the white pedestal and your blue platter! Good thing you kept the pedestal! The faux fruit is always great to use in decor as you never have to worry about it! Your blue and white dishes are so beautiful — as is your lovely home! I always enjoy your posts! I have the same blue cabinet! I got it from Kirkland Home and just love it! It is so “country”! The numbers on the drawers are so cute!
Blessings! Enjoy your day!

Love the blue and white with the Fall colors. Do you have any photos of your breakfast room drapes? I can see blue and white ticking peaking out from behind the top of the chandelier and you’ve mentioned in the past the Jacobean floral came from World Market. Wold love to see a full view of the drapes. They are giving me an idea to use in my breakfast room.
