I love to scrounge around in my bits and pieces from
leftover projects and create something unique.
That is just what I did to create these
No Sew Fabric Covered
Memory Boards.
I am participating this month in the
No-Sew Showcase: Spring Decor
Joining me this month are two other
fabulous Bloggers and dear friends…
Yvonne with Stone Gable and
Debbie with Confessions of a Plate Addict.
I will share their projects below.
Now – let’s get crafting…
I used (2) 8×10 canvases.
They were $3.99 for two at Hobby Lobby.
I also used a package of “fat quarter” fabric squares.
These are pre-cut fabric pieces used for quilting.
The fabrics are already color
coordinated so there is no guessing.
I dug through my hardware box, and found
(3) small knobs that coordinated with
the fabrics. These were leftover from a
furniture project.
Finally, I purchased one roll of coordinating
satin ribbon.
For the first board, I decided to make a mini
French Ribbon Memory Board.
And for the second, I used the knobs for
hanging a hat, a scarf, keys. etc.
Here’s how you make the
French Ribbon Memory Board:
1) Lay out the canvas on the fabric, and cut the fabric
about 1 -1/2″ extra wide all the way around.
2) Lay the canvas right side down onto the back
of the fabric. I used a stapler to attach the
fabric to the wood frame.
*(You could also use a hot glue gun.)
3) Simply pull the fabric up and around the back
of the frame and staple.
4) Fold the ends in like you would when wrapping
a package to create neat corners.
Repeat this same process for the other Memory Board.
This literally only took about 15 minutes to cover
both boards.
For the Knob Memory Board…
I decided how wide I wanted the ribbon rows.
I used hot glue to adhere the ribbon to the back.
I kept adding rows of ribbon, weaving over and
under each time.
Finally, I removed the screws from the back of
the knobs, and used my Loctite Power Grab Adhesive
to attach along the edge of the frame.
*(You could use shorter screws to attach to the
wood frame of the canvas.)
I also decided last minute to add a alligator clip
to hold mementoes.
The fabrics coordinates beautifully, and
the satin ribbon ties it all together.
It’s a great place to hang your keys, hold some
cherished photos or postcards, or even leave
reminder notes to yourself.
I completed both of these canvases for about
$12, not including the knobs which I already
had on hand. Make sure you use a 40% off
Hobby Lobby coupon.
You can create larger boards by using this same
technique and larger canvases and cuts of fabric.
I love that you could even use remnants of
fabric from somewhere else in the room
to tie it all together.
I am happy to share the other two
No-Sew Projects included in this
month’s Showcase.
