Welcome to What’s on My Wall Wednesday! This event offers you the chance to show off some of your wall treasures! If the eyes are a picture to the soul, I think it could be said that your artwork and what you hang on your walls are the soul of your home. I think what you showcase on your walls is a reflection of who you are, what you like…and what makes you happy.
I enjoy What’s on Your Wall Wednesday because you have already shared so many of your family pictures, artwork, custom tile designs… and so much more. It’s a chance to get really up close and personal with you and your home.
Please add your permalink to Mr. Linky only after you have made your blog posting. Mr. Linky only went out a few times today…so maybe the bugs have been worked out. Let’s hope so!

This week – I want to talk about my cornice boards. When we purchased this home, I was very pleased that I would have these jewels to work with….or should I say jewels in the rough. For they were covered with the most hideous fabric one could imagine. Because this was in the days before blogging – I did not take “before” pictures. Let’s just say the 80’s called and wanted their fabric back.
The largest one is hanging in my formal Dining Room, and stretches about 16′ across. It takes three Olympic Bench Pressers to get this puppy down and back up again.
Before we added on the large Family Room addition, this room was the formal Living Room. Now because this room serves a different purpose – I want this cornice to be upholstered in a more formal fabric. This is one of my Summer projects – although I have not informed Mr. Grits of the need for these to come down yet. (I’m askeered!) :-O LOL
I love the details and all the angles….this is the end of the cornice.
.. and this is the detailing between the doors and stationary glass panels. No – the drop is not hung off center it is the angle of how I took the pic. I promise they are aligned. If they were not – there would have been no peace in Ye’ Ole House of Grits. I am a balance and align freak! 🙂
I, also, have cornices in my foyer. One hangs on each side of the front door. These are very unusual in that they are bell shaped and flare out at the sides.
I think whoever crafted these was brilliant. Again, I chose a simple fabric when we moved in – and used a brush fringe. I have my eye on a silk plaid for these darlings.
I also wanted to share two new tiles I recently purchased at Kirkland’s. I had all intentions of adding these on the new Front Porch, but there just wasn’t enough room….
The colors accent this area perfectly…so they have found a new home here. Both mine and Mr. Grits’ initials are B-G.

Barb, I love your cornice boards, they are just gorgeous. I like the fabric you have now, but I know you will pick out something even more fabulous. I can’t wait to see it.
I am so excited for you that you will see Debbie and Kathysue tomorrow. I know you three will have a ball. I can’t wait to hear all about it.
Than you’re going to meet KD. That is just too wonderful. What a really fun trip. Be sure to take lots of pics so we can all share, and I can’t wait to hear all the stories.
Have fun. Hugs, Marty

Hi Barb! Oh, how elegant these cornices are! Can’t wait to see what you do with them. Love the shades underneath too!
I must tell you, I had cornices one time and I made them out of insulation board. Cut my shape, hot glued on quilt batting and then added my fabric with dress maker’s pins! They hung over my windows in the living and dining rooms for almost 10 years! They weighed about 5 ounces and I hung them over some giant nails! Voila! Not wood and sturdy like yours, but hey, they worked! 🙂

Hey Barb! Great cornice boards, I love the fabric you used to reinvent them in! I also wanted to say thanks for the tip on the Random Number Generator. It worked like a charm! Out of four of the winners, three were from TX! Isn’t that too cool? 😉 Happy Wednesday! 😉 ~CC Catherine

I adore those bell shaped cornice boxes. How unique! Of course I love all your letters. It’s probably a really good thing we don’t have the same initials. See you on Friday!

I love the fabric on your cornice board…very classic! I have to tell you that your story about shopping in the hospital gift shop brought back memories for me…My father was in the hospital a lot before he passed away and my mama and I are both shopaholics! Well, he had a very serious surgery once and a friend of my mama’s from church as waiting in the room with us. The nuns kept coming in letting us know how daddy was…and the lady from the church started talking about how we should go to Macy’s…they were having a gigantic sale that day. Sometimes shopping eases the stress:)
