Summer.
If Summer had a taste there would be some definite classics.
Grilled Hamburgers and Hotdogs. Watermelon. Tomatoes and Cucumbers.
And Lemonade. Freshly squeezed, sweet and served over ice. And if you
can serve it in the Garden in the late afternoon as the sun is falling behind
the trees, even better.
Sparkling Strawberry Lemonade
One afternoon a few weeks ago, I was out working in the garden and
my sweet Hubby said “this would be a nice place to sit and have a drink.”
Now, keep in mind my 6’2″ Marine Colonel Hubby doesn’t often wax the
poetic, so it kinda came as a surprise that he would say that. I agreed.
The garden is in full bloom and I love that there are dragonflies all
around and the sound of bees buzzing by, and the birds can be heard
in the trees beyond. It’s our little spot of magic in our own backyard.
So the other day, I surprised him by setting up some of our comfy
outdoor chairs and made a large batch of Sparkling Strawberry Lemonade.
We sat here talking and just enjoying the calmness. Not having the babies
running around made it a bit more peaceful. 😀
As I have gotten older, I have realized that the moments that count,
are the quiet ones spent with loved ones. Nothing can replace relaxing
with your husband and enjoying a refreshing drink and letting the world
take care of itself.
We didn’t solve any world problems. We didn’t cure hunger or come
up with a solution for World peace. Just two people who just celebrated
24 years of marriage, holding hands (yes we still hold hands) – mentally
planning our next vacation to England, discussing how blessed we are,
sharing how much we miss my sweet Daddy – and sharing our hopes and
dreams for our babies.
We sat outside until after dark. The lightening bugs came out, but
also unfortunately, so did the biting variety of bugs which drove us
inside. But, the Hubbs and I made a pact with us to have a weekly
date in the Garden. He even said next week he will surprise me with
making the drink. Oh my. :-O
Have I ever mentioned The Hubbs loves bourbon. 😀
I had never made this particular recipe for Lemonade, so we were
pleasantly surprised just how much we loved it. It was so easy to
make and I think it would be simple to substitute other flavors such
as peach or even pomegranate. Or bourbon. 😀
And it’s okay if you don’t have a garden to sit in and enjoy this.
The idea is to just stop and let life take care of itself for just a
little while. Just enjoy being with the one you love.
Thanks for letting me share my newest Summer drink with you.

Did you miss when I shared my technique for putting
together Flower Arrangements?
………………………………………………..
Enjoy my Recipe…here is the printable format.
- About 6-7 lemons
- 1 small container of Strawberries, about 1 1/2 cup, stemmed and halved
- 1 Quart of Sparkling Water (you could also use club soda, gingerale. 7-Up, etc)
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 cups water
- ice cubes
- lemon slices for garnish (opt)
- In a small saucepan, combine water and sugar and strawberries. To make a Simple Sugar, heat until sugar melts on medium heat. Turn on low and let berries simmer for about 10 minutes. Drain strawberries from simple syrup. Roll lemons on a cutting board to release as much juice as you can. Slice lemons in half, and squeeze out as much juice as you can in a small bowl. Discard any seeds. Pour simple syrup into a pitcher, add lemon juice and fill pitcher with sparkling water. I used almost a full bottle. Add ice cubes. Serve with lemon slices and mint. (opt)
