My Mama loves me !
Oh yes, she does.
She just recently “re-gifted” me with one of
her favorite and valuable material possessions.
A Staffordshire Blue & White Soup Tureen.
Trust me… if there was ever a great way to be
“re-gifted” then this is it.
I have the perfect place for it, too.
I am sharing
Six Easy 5-Minute Arrangements
using my “new” Blue and White Tureen.
My mother started collecting blue and white dishes many,
many years ago. I have stated here several times that I
inherited her “dish” gene. At least, that’s my story and
I am sticking to it. It’s “genetic,” I can’t help it.
😀
When we lived in Europe, I couldn’t help but pick up
a few pieces here and there and send them back to
Mama as a surprise. One of the pieces I sent back to
the States was this gorgeous Blue Staffordshire Soup Tureen.
It was a beauty. I got a great price because
a) it was covered in about 40 years of dirt and grime, and
b) it was missing the ladle.
But, this gal knew that none of that mattered a bit.
The tureen was hard to let go, but I figured I would find another
one for myself sooner or later, so off it was shipped to Mama.
Fast forward three years later when we were packing up
and moving back to the States…
and a blue and white Soup Tureen was NOT part of our
shipment home. *sniff *sniff
I just never found another one like it.
A few weeks ago, Mama came over and saw my newly
redecorated Kitchen and Breakfast Room.
She fell in love with one side of my Breakfast Room, and said
“I know something that will make it perfect.“
A few days later, she gave me her beloved Soup Tureen.
She was right.
It could not be more perfect.
It pulls in my collection of blue and white plates
above my new board and batten walls.
We removed the top off the black painted hutch,
and I think it looks so much better.
A coat of white paint on the table and new, blue chairs
from World Market completes the look.
*{I will showcase the rest of the Breakfast Room soon.}
Today, I thought I would show you Six Easy Arrangements in
my “new” tureen which will each take you literally 5-minutes or
less to pull together.
1) A Mound of Moss
If you have been following me for any amount of time,
you will know that I have a moss fetish.
I can’t help it.
I. Love. Moss.
I simply balled up some tin foil – yes, tin foil – to create
some “lift” and a mound inside the bowl and
piled on the moss.
That’s it.
I said these were 5-minute arrangements but this
was probably closer to 4 minutes. 🙂
2) Green Apples
I absolutely love the mixture of Staffordshire blue and
green apples. It’s two colors meant to go together.
Balls of tin foil (I use tin foil as filler a lot!) are placed
inside the bowl, and a mound of green apples were placed on top.
Bits of moss are tucked between the apples, adding some
texture and another splash of green.
For Christmas, I already envision this filled
with cedar and a pile of red apples.
3) Dried Hydrangea
Freshly picked and dried right from my Mama’s garden,
these dried hydrangea make a simple statement.
Mother Nature meets a beautiful work of art.
The simplicity of this look takes my breath away.
4) Succulents in a Bowl
As I was creating these arrangements, I quickly
came to the conclusion that I could put some cow pies
in this and it would be pretty. 😀
Okay, maybe not cow pies – but these succulents sure are nice.
The greens and reds and textures of the succulents
play perfectly with the blue and white.
5) Green Plants and Seashells
For an all seasonal look, I can see a selection of green plants,
bits of moss and accents of white starfish and shells.
Summery and simply.
What more do you need?
6) Yellow Mums
With Fall quickly approaching, you know I could
not pass up the chance to add a touch of Autumn.
I think when most people think of the perfect accent color
for blue and white, you instantly think “yellow.”
These mums did not disappoint.
I can’t wait to add a few more Fall details to this area.
These mini mums are the perfect start.
So that’s it.
Six simple but easy-to-assemble arrangements.
I know that not everyone is lucky enough to be re-gifted
with a beautiful blue and white soup tureen,
but these same designs could easily be placed into a basic
pottery bowl you have laying around.
I hope you enjoyed all of these ideas and will
give them a try in your home.

Good Afternoon Barb, I really enjoyed reading the story about your beautiful blue and white soup tureen. I love blue and white and like you, I have various styles of blue and white plates hanging on my wall. I have made a note about your missing ladle as I am always out and about, here in England, looking for vintage blue and white items, so if I see a ladle I will buy it and let you know. You just never know I might find one for you.

I have been doing floral design most of my life, but honestly (maybe age?) I seem to like the simpler ones now. These are all very do-able. 🙂
