Happy Middle of the Week,
My Everyday Friends!
It feels like Summer has officially arrived here
in Eastern NC – if the humidity levels are any
indication. I didn’t know I had as many sweat glands
as I do. 😀
So, it’s a good time for me to stay inside in the
cooler air and work on a few DIY projects.
For example, these
DIY Placemat Pillows.
Say hello to Lauren at Mom Home Guide.
She is a Guest Contributor today and is offering us
this great tutorial for making some easy, yet
beautiful pillows.
Hi! It’s Lauren from Mom Home Guide, and I am
so happy to be sharing my incredibly simple
DIY Placemat Pillows here at The Everyday Home!
These pillows are so inexpensive to make and so easy,
that it’s almost wrong to call making these pillows a DIY
project! Little to no effort or sewing is required for
these pillows!
I made the pillows just before I got my new La-Z-Boy sofa
for my home’s living room last spring. Up until my family
got our new sofa, the living room was mostly undecorated
and only housed a piano, my kids’ toys and two toy boxes.
You can understand why I couldn’t wait to start decorating
the living room!
I literally made my sofa’s pretty yellow and green pillows
in about 20 minutes — just before the new sofa arrived
at my home! I made these pretty throw pillows by
stuffing two-sided cloth placemats (from Target) with
pillow stuffing! I actually finished hand-stitching them
as the delivery truck was pulling into my driveway.
Talk about last minute!
I got the idea for the pillows when I was shopping
at my local Target. I had seen tutorials on Pinterest
about how to make throw pillows by stuffing double-sided
cloth placemats, so when I saw colorful green and
yellow double-sided placemats at Target for less than
$4 each, I scooped them up! I really love the bright
and happy colors of the pillows and their modern
trellis pattern.
Easy DIY Pillows
To make the pillows, all I did was open up about
3 to 4 inches of the seam on one edge of each placemat.
(I used a seam ripper.) I stuffed each pillow with Polyester
Fiberfill and hand-stitched the opening on each pillow
closed with a needle and thread. Very few sewing skills
are required for this project!
Now that I have completed these pillows, I am always
checking out Target for new double-sided cloth placemat
designs. I love changing up my home’s decor by making
new throw pillows, and these throw pillows are just so
easy to make!
