DIY Paper Covered Wood JOY Letters
I love a DIY project that is incredibly easy but offers so much impact in your decor. Basic wood letters from the craft store and a pretty toile paper combines for these beautiful DIY Paper Covered Wood JOY Letters.
After I made these letters, I actually had second thoughts that the paper I chose wasn’t vivid enough. I doubted my paper choice and considered changing the letters completely. In the end, I decided that I loved the vintage look of this particular scrapbook paper which I chose and I think the look and goes well with the farmhouse sink area of our kitchen.
I started out with two basic wood letters from Hobby Lobby. 50% off. Yay!

Prior to adding the paper, I painted the sides and edges with basic white craft paint. You could use any color, or even use a stain – depending on the design of your paper.

While the paint was drying, I ran out into the yard – in the pouring rain mind you…{and I may have still been in my pajamas} to clip some boxwood and cedar.

I quickly wired it together in a mini garland. Then, I formed it into a wreath which. This would create the letter “O.”

Is there truly an evergreen combination that speaks Christmas as much as boxwood and cedar?
Once the paint was dry on the letters, I traced them onto the paper and cut the letters out.
I used Mod Podge to adhere the paper to the letters. Once dry, I painted a final layer of “the podge” to seal the paper. You could also use basic white glue.
I made these letters to go above our farmhouse sink. There’s a small area between the wooden ledge and the industrial light fixture, so I wanted something with a little pop but I also wanted something with a farmhouse style.
I really am very happy with the look. What do you think? I have this amazing black and white houndstooth paper and I can see another set of paper covered letters in my future.

View CommentWhat a terrible time to be unwell. Just like the people of Whoville after the Grinch stole their Christmas things, you can still be filled with joy. Because Christmas is not about things. It’s about love and you share that with us each time you post. Rest, be well and we will all still here when you’re ready.

View CommentBarb, this is so pretty! I did something similar last year and just painted the J and Y. This year I’m going to paint them a different color and put them in a different room. 🙂
I sure hope you feel better! Looking forward to that ebook of yours.
View CommentAbsolutely love this project. Simple elegance. I’m inspired.
View CommentI loved these the first moment that I saw them – so caaauuute! I’ll be featuring your project at The Scoop this Monday night. xo
View CommentAbsolutely love every detail of this ‘little project’. The paper is perfect and is not too strong a contrast with the white in your kitchen. The color is keeping with the neutral look, but has color. I will be copying you when I can find a few minutes.
Hope you are feeling better and the new doctor gives you some relief.
Judith
View CommentYou’re so sweet. I did get a diagnosis and have a ways to go to get better but at least he didn’t repeat what the last 13 doctors said…”maybe you need anti-depressants?” grrrr It was such an easy project and at first I wasn’t sure about the paper but the vintage look appealed to me and I loved it. Merry Christmas. ~Barb
