Must Have Christmas Storage Products and Ideas
The holidays are coming to a close and we are all facing the task we dread the most – packing up the all that decor. Each year, I try to get creative and so the following year – everything will be easier to find. But these Christmas Storage Products and Ideas are put in place every year.
Christmas was a great success here at The Everyday Home. The first half was a whirlwind of parties and get togethers and shopping, but then we settled down after the kids got out of school – and it was baking cookies and visiting with Santa and just enjoying the time together. Now reality has set in and I am staring at all of these decorations, and cringing. All those baubles and balls and yards and yards of lights and garland need to come down. Each year, I try to organize it all so that decorating next year will be even easier. I don’t always get things placed exactly like I want, but I do manage to get my lights and ornaments and wrapping paper stored correctly. Here are some Must Have Storage Christmas Storage Products and Ideas for your Christmas Decor.
Usually, I leave all my decorations up until January 6th, Old Christmas. But, this year – I am antsy to get my house back to normal and start on some DIY projects. I will leave the tree up until Jan 6th – but as soon as this chest cold eases up a bit, I am gonna start the process. How do you store your decorations?
Rather, ours looked more like this…. 😀
Great idea, huh? Here are some other great organizing ideas for your Christmas decor and wrappings…
Use a clear, plastic garment bag to hold your leftover rolls of wrappings. Hangs easily in a closet.
Wrap your Christmas Lights around a plastic clothes hanger.
An inexpensive plastic bin with holes makes a great Ribbon Storage Bin.
Smaller clear, plastic cups can be used instead of larger red Solo cups. For smaller, unbreakable items such as my snowflakes, pinecones, faux snow, etc. – I use these to organize and mark the items inside…
Good ole’ Ziplock Bags. I stack all smaller items in the same bin. Christmas wreath storage was always an issue for me, too. Right now, I have at least 6 different Christmas wreaths, and I have no clue how many Holiday Wreaths I have total. Let’s just say – “several.”
Yes, you can spend the money on these “Wreath Keeper Bags.”
But, a large trash bag and a clothes hanger works just as well.
All of my seasonal wreaths are hung and stored this way. I have created tags which mark what season the wreath is for and also a short description. My wreaths hang in my attic.
I have concluded that my Christmas decorations reproduce like rabbits. Each year, I need at least 2-3 more bins. But, this year – I have started pulling out decor which I no longer use or which does not fit my style any longer. I already have at least 3 bins of decor I will donate or take to the consignment shop.
So, how about you? Do you have any ingenious ideas for storing decorations you would like to share with me?For now though, I think another nap is in order. xxoo, Barb

When I retired, we bought 17 – SEVENTEEN – five shelf racks. I organized all my decorations – Christmas, Valentine Day, St. Patrick’s Day – and labeled all the containers. After Halloween I put some decorations aside to gift to someone and I asked one of my daughters-in-law which ones she wanted and gifted her. I will do the same with my Christmas decorations. I LOVE Christmas and I put out over 200 nutcrackers this year. We are planning to sell our house in the spring and downsize because currently we have 5 bedrooms and it is just too big for us now so I have to weed things out now. I will be using your plastic cups idea, thanks for sharing.

View CommentWhere have you been all my life? O.K. I’m 67 yrs old so that gives you some wiggle room of 30-40 years but these ideas are genius! Every year for 47 years I have been promising myself that “next Christmas” all my decorations will be neatly organized and labeled. Bwahahaha…who was I kidding besides myself? So then today I come upon your post and I am inspired. Inspired to do the right thing just once before my family carts me off to the “old folks home”. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I actually picked up some plastic cups and Solo cups this afternoon. I may have used one of the Solo cups to indulge in an adult beverage but that’s that’s another story. January 1, 2018 I can be found packing away ornaments and lights at a furious pace and it’s all because of you. By the way, I’m not too terribly concerned about being sent off to you know where. I’m still the best cook in the family and the grandchildren have to have somewhere to go when mommy and daddy take that sanity break they’ve been dreaming of. You know, the meal they’ve been reminiscing about where everybody cuts their own meat and gets to watch (dare I say it?) an R rated movie with a glass of wine or a bottle of beer. Yeah….old age does have its’ perks. You just have to put up with the graying hair, aching muscles and a host of other age related infirmities to enjoy all of the freedom that comes with it. Is this a great country or what???

These are great ideas and I love the wreath idea. I am taking down stuff to clean and organized my house before starting back up with school.

I started organizing my decorations 2 years ago when I retired. I go through and weed out what I don’t like or use anymore and my niece usually takes what I don’t want and the rest goes to Goodwill. I like to use clear boxes I can see into for storage. And I use a different box for each set up. Ex. 1 box for outside decor, 1 box for the mantel, 1 box for the doorway, etc. Best tip I ever got! I also use your wreath tip and ziplock bags for ornament storage. Thanks for all your ideas!!

Thanks for these organizing tips. I like the idea of using plastic cups and bins for storage. I usually store my Christmas decorations in a box, but I think a plastic bin is much more secure than a box.
