I needed a last minute centerpiece.
But my problem with last-minute centerpieces
is usually – they look just that.
Last minute.
Thrown together.
Desperate.
Sad.
LOL
I think you get the picture.
I needed a cute centerpiece for the breakfast
room table which is where we will gather our
July 4th Celebration desserts.
So bring out the Mason Jars and bring in the sand.
Yes, sand!

July 4th Flag Mason Jars

July 4th Flag Jars by The Everyday Home
I know most of you don’t equate sand with desserts.
But, I had this brainstorm when I recently found
a sand-filled jar my son made about
twenty-five years ago at a local, County fair.
The best part of this project is that it literally
only took me a few minutes to make.

If you can pour sand, you can make this project.
I used large Quart-sized jars, but you could use any size.
It took two bags per color of sand to fill three jars.

I started by adding a layer of white sand,
about 1/2″ to the bottom, then layered the red sand,
about the same thickness. Pour a little at a time,
and give the jar a little shake to settle down the
sand level. Work with the two jars side-by-side so
you can keep the lines somewhat uniform.

The lines don’t have to be perfect.
In fact, I think the swaying lines replicate a
swaying flag.
Next, fill the remaining jar with the blue sand.

I thought about adding some white stars to the insides
of the blue jar, but decided I liked it plain.
Once I had all three jars filled, they looked like this.

Now it was time to put them on my
breakfast room table.

When I bought the sand at Michael’s, I spied these
cute patriotic-print daisies. I don’t normally care
for printed flowers such as these, but I loved the
pop of red, white and blue – and since they were
66% off + another 10% off coupon –
I wouldn’t be out much if they didn’t look good.

I centered all three jars on a long, rustic wood tray,
then filled around the jars with white shells.
I tucked in a few of patriotic daisies and
some vintage, book paper stars.

This centerpiece was exactly what I was looking for.
Simple. Inexpensive. And, most of all – quick to make!
I had a bushel of sweet corn to put up in the freezer!
I had to get moving!

I can’t wait to see the multitude of desserts that will
soon surround these July 4th Flag Mason Jars.
I will be making my Cheesecake Bites…
I had a very special helper, and I am
glad to report these jars are
“Boo-Boo Bunny Approved.”
😀
I know that July 4th is this Saturday, and most of
you are hurrying around getting ready for cookouts
and celebrations with family and friends.
You’re running out of time.
But, trust me…

July 4th Flag Jars by The Everyday Home
You still have time to make this simple centerpiece.
Just don’t serve them with your other desserts.
😀
Have a safe and happy celebration,
my friends.
God Bless America !!!
I would love for you to PIN these
images to your fave Pinterest Boards.

I love it when an old craft comes back around (it always does, doesn’t it?)! When I was in college many years ago, my girlfriends and I were all about colored sand creations. I didn’t know they even sold it anymore. Thanks for renewing fun memories. Your centerpiece looks beautiful!
View CommentHi Faith- honestly I didn’t know either. I went to buy regular sand (or hoping they had it anyway) at the craft store and lo and behold there was colored sand. 🙂 Glad you stopped by. ~Barb
View CommentGrown ups enjoy playing with sand too! This is a nice unique craft and I love it. So glad you shared with us at Merry Monday. I shared in a Round up and Pinned. Thanks.
