Last year, I finally had all I could take.
Of our copper Farmhouse Sink, that is.
Although it had given us many years of good use,
it was becoming increasingly harder to keep clean.
And although I am far from an OCD housekeeper –
(boy, do I wish I were – lol)
… I just longed for something pretty and white and
well – a sink that looked clean.
So, I started shopping online.
Most sinks were way out of my budget – that is…
– until I ran across the
IKEA FARMHOUSE SINK.
I discovered the IKEA DOMSJO Sink.
There was only one major problem.
The two IKEA stores closest to me were 5 and 6
hours aways. But, I was willing to make the drive.
I mean, for the price savings – it was worth the
time and effort.
But, one store was completely out of stock,
and had NO idea when another shipment would be in.
(I guess I was not the only one who had discovered
what a great price these sinks were!)
The other location had only ONE sink left.
Perfect, I thought!
I thought wrong!
They could not hold it for me and could not guarantee
it would not be sold when I got there.
Keep in mind The Hubbs was not too keen on
driving FIVE HOURS for a SINK!
Can you only imagine the look on his face when I said
we could get there and the sink could be sold?
:-O
But, I was persistent.
I finally got someone at IKEA who took pity on me
when I called the 1-800#.
She hooked me up with someone in the
Kitchen Department at the store that had the last
Farmhouse Sink in all of America, maybe all
of the First World. I spoke with “Laura.”
Laura agreed to hold the sink for me until noon
the next day. Laura became my new best friend.
So – off we went the following morning… with two
grandsons tagging along.
I mean, we might as well make a weekend of it right?
Hotel, Room Service, Pool, IKEA Shopping.
The perfect weekend, right?
😀
We got to IKEA at about 11:15 am.
But, what was I thinking?
Saturday morning at IKEA?
The service desk was a MILE long.
I watched the clock on the wall.
Minutes passed, and with each tick of the hand,
I was seeing visions of my Farmhouse Sink being
carried out by someone else.
Finally, it was my turn.
11:47.
I talked fast –
(well as fast as someone with a Southern accent can talk)
– and explained my extreme need for expediency.
The young lady stopped me…
“Ma’am – we already have a Farmhouse Sink pulled.
Let me go see what name is on it.“
It was the moment of truth. I held my breath.
While The Hubbs and the Grandloves were upstairs
chowing down on some IKEA Meatballs,
I chowed down on my nails in nervous anxiety.
(yes, I am a nail chewer but more on that another time)
She came back and said “this tag says Barbara Garrett.”
If I could have done the Michael Jackson Moonwalk,
I would have right then and there I was so happy.
(I did it in my mind instead) 😀
I pranced around with that sink on the cart like I had
just won the Preakness.
About the time we were to start the mini
Kitchen Remodel, I got sick.
Then, Daddy got sick.
It sat in my Living Room in the box for several months.
But, recently, we finally had it installed.
We also just had the lower cabinets painted
a pale blue, which I will be glazing.
(hence the lack of knobs on the bottom cabs)
We also installed a beadboard backsplash and
added a new Pro-Chef Style Faucet.
We are still in the process of adding Board ‘n Batten
to the walls, and the wood countertops need re-staining.
But, I could not help but add a few pretties around my
new IKEA Farmhouse Sink.
Here are FIVE Things I Love About my
IKEA Farmhouse Sink:
1) The cost. This sink retails for about $312.00
Most other farmhouse sinks sell for no less
than $600-700!
2) The size. It’s large. I had no clue
when we bought it just how much larger it was
than our old copper sink. 37″ wide.
But, I love that it is so large.
3) It’s WHITE.
White = Clean.
Enough said.
4) The Back Drainboard
Someone said I would hate the drainboard area
along the back. I think its actually beneficial.
I use a scrub brush (the kind with the soap in the handle)
and a spray of my new faucet and its clean as can be.
5) It’s Pretty. Yep. It’s just plain purdy.
I walk into my kitchen and see how it sparkles, and
it makes me smile.
So while my house may never be spotlessly clean at
any given time.
Four cats and THREE rambunctious grandbabies.
(Need I say more?)
My kitchen sink will at least LOOK clean.
That makes me a happy lady.
(It’s the little things.)
😀
Here is a little peak at the old copper sink, in case
you were wondering.

Do you know where I can find another “last one on earth” Ikea DOMSJO double sink? I too want it and will drive wherever needed?!
Thank you!

I have that exact sink and love it. (I have a love/hate relationship with the drain board in the back. I find it hard to clean under the handle, where it gets dirtiest the most.) A few years back we totally gutted our kitchen and put in an Ikea kitchen. I couldn’t be happier with everything. My kitchen was designed around that sink. Enjoy it!!
View CommentBarb says
Yea, I agree about the love/hate part. I do like it for wet sponges, etc. But for the price, well, I will tolerate it. LOL I know what you mean about building your kitchen around the sink. I thought we were going to have to also when I got it home and we measured the sink cab. Oh my!
View CommentBarb says
Yep, love/hate is exactly right. But I love the sink (and its cost) enough to deal with it. 🙂

Happy for you that you snagged the sink you fell in love with. Yes, terrific price for a farmhouse sink. I too had a copper sink like yours. I lived with it for 4-1/2 years and couldn’t stand it for a second longer. VERY high maintenance!!!! I searched online for a sink model like I used to have in another home, which now was discontinued by Kohler, an 80/20… Discontinued meant they were very scarce, if one could be found at all! I found one in the ‘biscuit’ color that I preferred, and bought it in a heart beat. Had to have the granite reworked about an inch-wise larger on the backside by a professional granite person, and then my plumber popped the sink in there, refitted the faucets, handles, etc. and I can’t even tell you how much happier I am!!!! I loved that sink so much, had there been two available, I think I might have bought two and stored one, for my next home!!!

Yep the upkeep was getting impossible. I just wanted something “clean.” LOL Glad you found your perfect sink!

First, thanks for introducing me to THAT sink! LOVE at first sight! Adding it to my wish list that’s a mile long! Second, I saw from pre-remodel that you had a brick backsplash and you now have the beadboard. I have the brick and am sick of it! Did you go over the brick with the beadboard or did you rip off the brick? I do like how you painted your brick – I white washed mine and I may just paint it like you did? What to do, what to do?
View CommentBarb says
Doreen – the brick backsplash that we had was faux. 🙂 We used the 4×8 sheets of faux brick paneling from Lowes, hence why I painted it. We removed that and replaced it with beadboard, only because I wanted something new. I think painting it would be beautiful. Decisions, decisions. Never ending. 🙂 xxoo

Consumer alert here .. Watch out for some or most of these “IKEA” product ..they come from over sea. The chaftmanship is poor
View Commentquaility… A kitchen sink gets a lot of wear & tear. So, remember in kitchen & bathrooms. That were you’ll return your money back.
In reselling of your home. Alway, try to buy a product that’s has a guarantee.. If they will stand behind their products. Then you
know you made a good investment …

Normally I would 100% agree, but this is one of the heavier sinks I have ever seen. I flip houses and we go through a lot of sinks. The quality seems excellent. Plus, others have had their sinks for several years and no one has reported any problems. Thanks for stopping by. ~Barb

This sink weighs a TON. My husband and I could barely lift it. I love it. (My entire kitchen is Ikea – cupboards, sink, stove, microwave, fridge). The appliances are all Whirlpool, just with no labels on them. When I get a scratch in my sink, I use Bartenders Friend and rub it right out. We’ve had the kitchen since 2010 and we have had absolutely no issues. Everything is holding up very well.

I wish!!! That will never happen though. So….travel we must. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by my sweet friend. Miss talking to you! xxoo

Your kitchen is beautiful! We are redoing our house and I am getting this farmhouse sink. I’m super excited!!! But, I am searching the web, trying to figure out if I have to buy a faucet from Ikea or if any one hold faucet will fit? Is yours from Ikea?
Thanks!
View CommentBarb says
Chelsea, no we bought ours from Lowes because it was cheaper at the time. 🙂 I will say I wish the drain boards in the back were not there. Its a little more effort to keep clean. I use one of those scrubby brushes with the soap in the handle and a little clorox added in. 🙂 Otherwise, i LOVE it. Hope you do too. Thanks for your kind words and for stopping by. ~Barb

I have been looking at the Ikea sink too – actually because of the drainboard. My sister has a new undermount sink with the faucet on the granite – she says she has to keep a towel by the faucet because the water splashes do not roll back into the sink. Water puddles around the faucet all the time. My problem is I really want cast iron, and 2 bowls, and three faucet holes for a bridge faucet and I want the faucet on the sink, not the counter and I want to spend less than $1000. I think I want too much:)
Your kitchen is lovely!
View CommentBarb says
LOL. We women just want what we want don’t we. I really do love it. The drainboard isn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I just use a scrubby brush a few times a week and done. You can’t beat it for the price. I also wanted the faucet you are referring to but hen I saw this deal, I went for it. I actually LOVE my faucet btw. Thanks for stopping by and for your kind words. ~Barb

We are in the process of picking out a new kitchen sink and keep going back to the IKEA Farnhouse sink. I love how it looks in your kitchen. Can you tell me how deep the bowls are? Thanks!!

My husband and I are busy planning a country farmhouse we’ll be building summer 2016. I had my heart set on an apron front sink, but the prices on most of them are just crazy. Until now. I am over the moon to have stumbled on your post (thank you Pinterest!). I would never have realized this was an apron front sink by looking at the Ikea photos online (they are really terrible!), but it looks gorgeous in your kitchen. I just told my husband the price and that it’s in stock at our local Ikea, and he says we’re driving there to buy one this week. Way too good a deal to miss out on. Thanks!! 🙂
View CommentBarb says
Awesome, glad you found this post, too. I would call first to make sure they are in stock if the drive is far. I had to drive over 5 hours one way. :-O But it was worth it. 🙂 Good luck, Barb

I am in love with apron sinks. This would be perfect in my new kitchen. I was wondering if you knew if this sink could be used on any type of counter top. We are trying to figure out all of our options. Thank you!
View CommentBarb says
Suzanne, we had to replace the standard cabinet base with a wider one to accommodate the depth, and also we had to beef it up to support the weight, also. It took two men to lift it up it’s so heavy. But all in all, I love it. 🙂
View CommentJessi Jo says
It’s says on the website that it is 37″wide. Is this correct, I want this particular sink so badly, but I’m afraid it won’t fit in my kitchen :(.
View CommentSuzanne says
It’s a beautiful sink. I eyeballed them at Ikea before I left California on my move to Louisiana. No Ikea here.
View CommentP.S.
Tell me where you got those knobs?
Barb says
Hi Suzanne – we had to drive 12 hours round trip to our nearest IKEA but we made a weekend of it. 🙂 The knobs came from Hobby Lobby. Thanks for stopping by. ~Barb

I love your kitchen, So Beautiful!! We are finishing up our kitchen remodel and have the same sink. I am in Love!! I’m trying to decide if I am in love with the faucet though. I love the look with the Ikea sink, but my water faucet seems too short. I have the same one as you, from Lowes. Did you have to alter it to make it spray more towards the center of the sink? Would you mind measuring the length of the bar that holds the faucet? i’m wondering if yours is longer than mine…

Hi Barb! Was just wondering if this sink has any problems with scratching. My current porcelain sink has a lot of scratches it looks like grey veins or spiderwebs. Your kitchen looks beautiful!
View CommentBarb says
Hi Michelle – I will say my sink has some minor scratches in it, but its more because I am probably not as careful as I should be. 🙂 I cook a LOT. I also have been canning and preserving a lot this summer with my big canning pot, so that hasn’t helped. But, it’s not awful. I still love this sink. 🙂 Hope this helps. ~Barb

Did you use a faucet other than an Ikea one ,I was told only Ikea faucets could be used with their sinks
View CommentBarb says
No I got my faucet from Lowe’s, there’s was cheaper. I have had no issues.
View CommentBritt Fox says
So the reason you had so much trouble finding the sink is that they were on the way to discontinuing it. Like you I fell in love with the sink, only now there are none left at any IKEA in the US…. so I drove 6 hours to buy one 3 states away from someone who’d bought it but never used it. It’s the perfect sink for the total gut remodel of the house we close on next week. Yes, I bought my sink before I bought the house, I also bought a vintage mailbox but I didn’t have to travel nearly as far.
