Comment on Crispy, Iron-Skillet Potatoes and Homemade {fructose free} Ketchup by Suzan.
I have eliminated wheat and sugar from my diet in an attempt to treat my body better. I have been dying for ketchup! I cannot wait to make your recipe. Thanks so much for posting!
(By the way – this transplanted Southern girl married a Frenchman and the first “frenchy” thing I ever made was a cheese souffle in a tiny apartment oven that didn’t have a temperature regulator. The kitchen fairies were smiling because it came out perfectly. Second thing I made was Boeuf Bourguignon. I love it because it sounds so cotton picking fancy and really is crazy easy!)

Before and After Flip House Tour #3
Great flip! I flipped houses in the Seattle area and we only did foreclosures. We usually toured the houses when they were still full of stuff and nasty as all get out but they were all cleared of debris in the purchase contract. We also pulled out kitchen cabinets and replaced with stock cabinets from big box stores. So much easier than attempting to paint out cabinets! We usually had more than a little cosmetic work and actually took out walls when we felt it would help the design. Our biggest flip was a 5 bedroom with 3.5 baths that actually sold before we were finished. I am pretty sure that one was my favorite! I can honestly say that if I had my druthers, I would still be flipping houses. It is so rewarding to take something looking pretty shabby and turning it into a beautiful home.
Grocery Store Flowers
I have been buying bundles of grocery store flowers since I lived in Seattle nearly 15 years ago. Our Safeway had fabulous bundles of flowers that were so reasonably priced. I would get one variety bundle and two “straight” bundles – usually one with tall slender flowers and the other “filler” flowers. I could usually make two and sometimes three arrangements for house. I always had one in the living room, one in the breakfast room and one little one in the downstairs powder room. Flowers make me happy and the more the better is my motto! Costco also had great flower choices and that was my go to place for flowers when we were entertaining. Where I live now I hit our Giant or Weis Market which both have great selection and reasonable prices.
Before and After: A Flip House Tour
I flipped homes when I lived in Seattle and loved the process. I also noticed in all of those flipping or rehabbing shows on TV they seem to demolish everything in sight. I am sure it makes for good television but it is so wasteful. We always recycled everything that we pulled out so that someone else could re-use. Just because I don’t like builder’s grade oak(ish) cabinets doesn’t mean someone else could not use them if they are in decent shape. I love the board and batten treatment you use and loved your tutorial. I have a long wall in my dining room that needs “something” and I think board and batten is a great look that I can manage by myself. (Though it makes my sons really nervous when they hear I am in the basement with the compound miter saw and no one around to make sure I don’t lose a finger!)
Where have I been hiding?
Looks good! As a former house flipper, I am really looking forward to seeing the “rest of the story”! I truly loved house flipping even though sometimes it was backbreaking work! (We only did one that we didn’t have to completely gut the kitchen but most foreclosures we found were in pretty horrible condition.) I know how rewarding it is when you look at the original condition and the final result!
My Favorite Weather
We have lots of chirping birds but certainly not 70 degrees! I lived in the Tidewater area of Virginia for most of my life. There surely is a big difference between southeastern Virginia weather and southester Pennsylvania weather! Have a great weekend!!
