Welcome to the Fourth Day of The Grits’ Christmas Open House tour. This is the second to last part of the tour, as I am saving the kitchen for last. (and it gives me more time to clean it. )
This is our Family Room, and where we spend a large part of our time. I sit and blog on my laptop at night while Mr Grits “quietly” snores next to me in his chair. I did not go all out in this room. I wanted it to have a cozy feel where we would fill comfortable while sitting and relaxing.
Baby Lily has prepared everyone a bubbly mimosa…so please grab a glass and join us….
Our family room….and English pub area…
We added this room a few years ago. We wanted somewhere to entertain and have the whole family over.
My birdhouse tree….
I love large tree toppers…..
Birdhouses, grapevine, berries….
…cardinals, bird’s nests, hydrangea and snow-filled clear glass balls.
…and lots and lots of white lights.
The print above depicts Lord Kitchener. Because of Bill being military, we are often asked if this is a family pic. One day I am gonna say “why yes, he is.”
The ornaments seen above are more than treasured, they are keepsakes. These are the very first ornaments my parents bought for their first Christmas together. They were married on December 23…and have been married almost 60 years. I keep these out all year, usually in a Waterford bowl.
Decanters and Waterford glasses we purchased when we traveled to Ireland….
Even the bust gets a holiday touch.
A simple topiary of a grapevine ball filled with dried hygrangea.
This is our English pub area. I will blog about this area at another time.
The village cat.
My favorite area…
I filled my pink and white Staffordshire tureen with some holiday greens and topped it with another grapevine ball.
Pink and white plates….
The fireplace view. (shhhh….this is not a real fireplace). I hauled the mantle back from England on top of my van when we were living in Belgium.
Don’tcha just love my handpainted cat plates on that back wall?
A glittered star and sparkly ornaments hanging over the mirror.
Love, love my gold reindeer….bought last year at end-of-season sale.
So I hope you enjoyed the Family Room tour. There are more mimosas, so grab another and tour the rest of my home if you have not already.
Blessings, Barb

I love your pictures!! You have given me some great ideas… for next year.
View CommentYour style is lovely and so warm and welcoming. Love the idea of bird houses, birds and such on a Christmas tree. Might want to get myself a second tree next year. I used to do that with one tree decorated strictly with the boy’s school and church-made decorations. I miss that tree, but the decorations have been passed on to our sons and their wives.
I’ll be back…

Your Christmas decor is stunning. Your fabulous tree makes me wish I had one large room for a tree other than the slimline trees which I have.
View CommentI absolutely adore your centerpiece with the grater AND your tree topper:-)

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! I love that English Pub as part of the family room, how cool is that. The soup tureen is beautifully decorated. I am going to do that next year…but it won’t be quite so elegant…
View CommentThanks for sharing your beautiful home, can’t wait to see the kitchen!

I don’t know how I missed this part of the tour! But I love it; this is a room you’ve never shared before. It looks really comfy and inviting, but oh so pretty. The reindeer are my favorite. You are so gifted at groupings and tabletop displays, which are my favorite. And after all, that’s what makes a room look good!

Barb, I enjoy your blog so much! Your home is lovely–I wish I had a big bundle of money to hire you to decorate mine. I want to say how wonderful I think it is that you have recliners in your family room. I rarely see recliners on decorating shows on TV, and certainly not comfortable looking ones like yours and mine. What good is design you can’t relax and live in? You have mastered both of these arts. Thanks for the escape your blog provides me.
