Welcome to the 3d tour of The Grits Christmas Open House.
This morning at 9am, my husband and I hosted a Christmas Coffee for a few of our friends and business aquaintances. Other than a poinsettia basket my sweet Mr. Grits had brought home to me – and a few candles – our Morning Room was not exactly the epitomy of “festive.” So, at 5:30am, I hopped (well, slid actually) out of bed and went digging through my myriad of boxes with yet unused Christmas decor. Silver reindeer….perfect…..silver candlesticks….check…..silver ornaments…..check, check. And off I went….
I assembled this room in about an hour. 🙂
My favorite two pieces are the red berry, apple and ivy arrangement. This is one arrangement I did not make. I purchased it last year at an end of season sale.
I also bought the matching wreath. (seen hanging in window)
Cranberry Orange Muffins….things that make me go mmmmmm….
A mercury glass candleholder was another end-of-season find.
The silver coffee pot and stand is a treasured piece to me. This was one of my first really nice pieces of silver that I had ever purchaseded in Newport, Rhode Island while my husband attended the Naval War College. If you have ever been toNewport, you will know it is famous for its “cottages”…aka seaside mansions. I volunteered at a few of them making florals and giving tours. I had coveted coffee server for months in a local antique store.
I finally caved in and brought it home with me one day. It has a porcelain lining and will keep coffee warm for hours. By the way, it hangs on the stand and tips forward to pour.
This is the view as seen from my kitchen. The large poinsettia basket was a gift from Mr. Grits.
I placed some glittery ornaments on top of mercury glass votives to create silver topiaries.
Silver ornament tealight holders…..more sale finds.
I purchased the reindeer several years ago. This year, they sit on my English hutch which is filled with blue and white china….
…accompanied by silver candlesticks that belonged to Mr Grits’ grandmother.
Simple Dollar Store floral picks added to a green silk plant…easy peasy.
A red poinsettia given to me by a client, sits next to my blue and white Staffordshire dogs. The plant sits inside a crystal Waterford bowl. My son bought this for me coming home from his first Iraqui tour, when the plane stopped over in Ireland.
mmmm…..wine I purchased recently when my parents, my sister and my niece visited The Biltmore House in Asheville, NC. We will enjoy this on Christmas Day.
A petit four stand with silver potpourri….
Silver pinecone candle, with more ornament topiary balls.
Love this book….
Thanks for visiting me in our Morning Room. The final part of my tour will be tomorrow….where I showcase my kitchen and also my Family Room.
My son and his family arrive late tomorrow night…..if the snow in Raleigh allows it…..please say a prayer for their safe flight. Until tomorrow, dear blogging friends….
Blessings, Barb

What makes me go sigh…….everything in this room! I love those silver deer, just love them! Everything is beautiful. Do tell are those transferware tea cups on the window garland? How clever! I need a close up of that! It stopped snowing here Barb and nothing stuck to the ground so I think flights in tomorrow night will be okay! Merry Christmas dear friend.

Barb your home is lovely, I so enjoyed the tour this morning with my hot cup of coffee and blueberry muffin. I have a weakness for silver and crystal too, but I love the simple things too, they are often the finishing touch. Great job!
