That moment when all the Christmas decorations are down…
… and you look around and think your house looks so empty.
I know that in some ways, it feels good. My Christmas decor is shall we say – overload. So the bare spaces are calming and feel good. For about a day.
😀
This year, I have a few more Winter Decor projects planned than I would normally do. I kept out some of the pinecones when I was packing up, along with anything “snow” or “snowflake” related. I love how this Winter Wreath turned out, and especially how easy it all came together.
MATERIALS LIST:
- Metal Wreath Form
- I used an 18″ form.
- Quilt Batting
- one roll is adequate.
- Approx. 1 yard of the fuzziest fabric you can find. I bought mine at Hobby Lobby.
- Polka Dot Burlap Ribbon
- Winter Floral Stems
- Floral Wire
Did I say this was the fuzziest fabric I have ever seen? 🙂 You’ll also need some floral wire and/or white pipe cleaners.
*(not shown)
Start by cutting both the quilt batting and fuzzy fabric into approximate 5″ strips. You don’t have to measure, just eye it. If the last strip comes out slightly smaller or wider, that’s okay – don’t sweat it.
Next, tuck an end of one of the batting strips into the wire frame to secure it.
Now let me digress a bit here. I am using this particular wire frame, not because it is necessary for this project, but because I already had it and knew it would work. You could use a pool noodle cut to size, a straw wreath, etc.
Continue wrapping the wreath with the batting until you get a puffy wreath form. Now it’s time to start adding the “Winter.” Wrap the strips of frizzy fabric around the wreath form, until it is completed covered. Tuck loose ends inside other strips, as needed.
To better secure the fuzzy fabric strips, I used wire. You would think the green floral wire would show, but I clipped it close to the twisted end and fluffed the fabric, and it just faded into the fuzz. But you could use white pipe cleaners also if you have them on hand. Now for the pretty…
I chose a French-wired Burlap ribbon with white polka-dots. I thought the polka dots looked like snow. Next, I added some snow-dusted greenery…
Clusters of iced pinecones…
Some sparkly, iced greenery…
– and some white-painted antlers.
A ribbon hanger was all that was needed. I just twisted some floral wire and attached it to the back. I love it.
I think it just sings out Winter.
Lots of pretty elements that look like they are covered with fresh snow.
How much or little you want to add is a personal thing. Honestly, I am kinda in love with just the wreath with no bow or anything, and you *may* see another plain one appear in my home next week. *hint, hint
There’s one more thing…you can’t keep your hands off of it. It’s so fuzzy and just feels so good. My cat claimed the extra fuzzy fabric as HERS.
😀
I love the instant pop of Winter it adds to our front door.
