to share with you.
A DIY Spring Bird House
Hey y’all!
It’s Kirsten back again from Sweet Tea & Saving Grace!
I don’t know how the weather has been where y’all live,
but it’s been downright COLD here in Georgia.
(Go ahead and laugh – we got 1″ of snow and the
city shut down.)
I’m ready for spring! I’ve been busy bringing spring
decor into my home, and I’m in love with my
latest spring craft! Today I want to show you how
to make a DIY Spring Bird House
made from cardstock!
Oh it’s just too stinkin’ cute!
Let me show you how to make it. First you need a
few sheets of cardstock.
For my bird house, I selected two patterns for the
sides and two patterns for the roof. Be sure you
use cardstock, not just scrapbook paper because
it’s too flimsy.
For the sides of the bird house, cut 4 pieces of
cardstock to 4 1/2″ x 6″.
Crease each long edge at 1/2″ mark. This will be
your overlap when you put the house together.
Cut a 5″ square for the bottom of your bird house.
Fold the edges at the 1/4″ mark on all 4 sides and
use a glue stick or glue dots to attach the corners.
Now, I used a glue stick for this part.
Here’s what you do:
– First, cut out a hole in what will be the front of
your bird house, like I did in the photo above.
– Next, use your glue stick to attach the first side
to the base.
– Add each “wall”, being sure to cover the 1/2″ overlap
with each consecutive piece of cardstock.
So you’ll use your glue stick on the 1/2″ crease to
hold the walls together, and at the bottom of each
wall to attach each wall to the base. Make sense?
Great! Let’s move on.
Now for the roof, you’ll cut a piece of cardstock to
6″ x 12″ and just fold it in half to make the pitch.
If you have double-sided cardstock, that’s even
better, because you will see part of the underside
once it’s attached to the bird house.
Cut 2 triangle pieces. Leave 1/2″ along the bottom
of the triangle to attach to the house. The measurements
for this piece should be 4″ wide, then the top corner
is 3 1/2″ from the bottom edge.
Use your glue stick again to attach the triangles to
the house. To add the roof, you may want to use
a glue gun, like I did.
Once all the pieces are attached, you just dress it up!
I added yellow ribbon under the window.
If you want to make a perch, just cut a small piece of
cardstock, roll it up tight, and use hot glue to glue
down the edge. Use another dollop of hot glue to
attach one end of the perch to the house.
I also added little birds and lettering that says,
“Home Tweet Home“.
I love my little bird house and the fun spring colors
it adds to my mantle.
