Hi Everyone! I’m back.
It was life back to normal today…well, accept
for the vacation pile of laundry and vacation
pile of mail. Talking about bursting the
vacation bubble. 🙂
Last week’s Yay or Nay Thursday was all
about Teal. Do you like it, hate it, want it,
need it?
There was a resounding YAY for Teal, but the majority agreed that it should be used in small amounts – as an accent color.
I love all your feedback. I like to read
everyone’s comments and see how closely
I think to everyone.
This week… I think I already know the answer
to the Yay or Nay question – but will be curious
to see what you have to say on the matter.
open shelving or cabinetry which are gracefully
filled with a perfect arrangement of dishes
and glassware.
inspired me to remove two cabinet doors
in our own kitchen.
Now I am considering removing more doors
on each side of my sink. These are the
cabinets where our “everyday” plates and
bowls are stored.
These dishes are a mixture of mostly white
and some blue dishes.
the pin that got me to thinking.

Love the look…I mean I really love the look….but for me, it wouldn’t work. Not because of me, but my dear love of my life, he is a stasher. It is enough I have to see it!! So, yay on the look, nay on the practicality!!

I keep my Disneyware in a drawer down below. In my last house I didn’t have enough drawers, so I kept it in a basket in a cabinet under the counter. That way, when my nieces and nephews visit, they can pick their own plate and cup. No fighting! Love the shelves in your kitchen! How come if I took doors off a cabinet, it would look like my cabinet doors were missing?!? Yours looks like it was meant to be that way! Oh, to have talent!

LOL, I keep my granddaughter’s cups and dishes mixed in with ours, too, and they are all behind closed cabinet doors, Barb. : ) I just love the look of open shelving in a kitchen. However, the realist in me thinks about the dust and kitchen grease/grime that would be on them. I know a lot of people with open shelving say they use their dishes every day, so it really isn’t an issue, but what about the shelves themselves. I probably wouldn’t do it, myself, but like I said, I do love seeing the look in pictures.

Yay, definitely. We have open shelving in our country style kitchen, and the mismatched cups only give it a personal touch!

A big, fat YAY from me, Barb! I love the character that open shelving brings to one’s kitchen … and, it’s fun to style them, too (even if it IS with Disney sippy cups). LOL. I keep all of Jax’s Ninja plates, cups and bowls hidden away in a lower cabinet so that he can access them. I can’t wait to see what you do! 🙂

Yay all the way!! I love this look Barb! I’m sure you could find some room in a closed cabinet for the kiddies plates and cups.

Yay! I love the open shelves and glass front cabinets. You have to have a place to hide something though. I’d be hiding the sippy cups.

Love the look and even have some open shelves in my kitchen, but it’s hard to keep them looking good, especially with others in the house that don’t get the concept of keeping them uncluttered!

I too love the look of open shelves and plan on having some in my new kitchen which is to be built later on this year. However, I am a little concerned about the dust aspect, but to me common sense says have the dishes you use regularly on display, hiding any kids cups etc in a cupboard or draw, or possibly just have a few of your favourite items on display and be prepared to dust them regularly.

Love it, but usually when it’s a mix of open and closed. Then you can hide some junk, plus all open shelving can be just too much for me.

Yay for the look Nay for the usage, or at least for me. I think it is a passing phase, but a fun one to see. Dishes and glasses are easy for me to keep neat, and i have glass cupboard doors, I just don’t see me doing open shelving, but I do love the look,

I absolutely love the look. I could just never have it. So you do it so I can admire yours.

I won’t have open shelving… the dishes and cups and serving utensils get grimy and nasty from everything floating in the air. You will have to clean and wipe down much more regularly than you do now… so no, even though they look so wonderful in the photos… no open shelves at Calamity Acres.

I have a perfect, but small kitchen, therefore, no open shelves, plus I have sooo much stuff, that I need closed cabinets to stash it all. I also have close cabinets in my laundry room, with flower vases and many others, lol.. Love it..it’s gorgeous, though!

How about putting the grandloves’ dishes in a lower cabinet – so they can reach them – and then you could display your everyday dishes. Yes, things might get dusty but if you use the dishes everyday that would probably not be an issue. As far as the cabinet itself getting dirty, you could put easy-to-remove shelf paper in those cabinets and replace it when needed.

How about putting the grandloves’ dishes in a lower cabinet and then you could display your everyday dishes on your open shelving. Everyday dishes would be used often enough – as in “everyday” – so they shouldn’t get dirty. As far as the cabinet itself, you could use some easy-to-remove shelf paper and replace it when needed. I love the look of open shelving and plan to do it in my next house when we move. I think it makes the kitchen look larger and brighter. (I have a tall bookcase that goes within about a foot of the ceiling. I put several layers of waxed paper on it and then remove a layer when it gets dirty. No one can see it but it sure makes cleaning easier for me.)

I love open cabinets with beautiful things displayed. However, for me, I would take one or two open cabinets, the rest would need to be closed to store all my other dishware.

Yay….I have open shelving in my kitchen. We re-did our kitchen 2 years ago and I purposefully installed open shelving. LOVE IT!!!

I love the look of the open shelving, but unfortunately, I will never be able to have it in my house. I have too much “stuff” that needs to hide behind the doors.

I love the combination of open and closed cabinetry…but mainly closed to hide my things that are not necessarily “attractive”….:)

Yay! Absolutely open shelving make a kitchen look more open and romantic I think, and for your plasticware which everyone has you can put it in a nice complimentary colored lined basket
View CommentBut definitely yay

We have all open sheling instead of upper cabinets in our remodeled kitchen and I LOVE them! So easy and with white dishes (and some blue thrown in) it looks grat – and functions so well – so easy to empty the dishwasher!

We have open shelves in two different kitchens and we like the look and how it works for us. It does take some additional cleaning, but that’s a small thing next to enjoying the open look.

I say go ahead and use the open shelves with Transformer cups or Mason jars. I like the everyday look of useful things. We are trying to clean out a lifetime of “treasures” and I find as I grow older that I want more utilitarian objects in the kitchen. I love the English cottage look and many of those rooms do not even have wall cabinets.
