Cats.
I am one cat away from being that Crazy Cat Lady.
And I am fine with that.
My husband is under the impression that I may
very well be a “Cat Whisperer.”
Neighborhood cats just find their way to me,
and lots of poor, strays always seem to find their
way “home” on our back porch.

You have met most of my sweet fur babies,
but we have a new addition that adopted us last year
which I will introduce you to.
Here is Boo-Boo Bunny.
His “legal” name is Omi.
He is our oldest at 19-years old.
He is my “baby” and is soooo much a part of my life.
Him and his sister found his way into our hearts
when we lived in Brussels, Belgium.
We like to say he is a
“bi-meowing” cat. He meows in English and French.
😀
Then, there is the fabulous Bitty Kitty.
What a beauty she is and trust me – she is ALL Diva.
🙂
She’s our “talker” and the sounds she makes is hilarious.
She is also the protector of the group.
Here is our newest baby … Miss Sheeba.
Miss Sheeba, or “Sheebs” as Roo labeled her is…
how do I say it?
Um…. pleasantly plump.
Oh ok, she’s fat.
She is a perfectly, happy Fat Cat.
And we could not love her more.
When my son and daughter-in-law moved to a
new home, it wasn’t ideal for a cat who loved to be
outside on warm sunny days.
Plus, she had become completely content while
staying a few days at Grammy and Grandpa’s house.
So, she took up residence and officially adopted
us as her parents.
Our fourth cat is Baby Lily.
Baby Lily is, I am totally convinced, a reincarnated child.
She is the neediest of all of our cats and demands the
most attention. At. All. Times.
God sent me Baby Lily at a rough time in my life.
When my son was on tour in Iraq during the
worst time of the war, I had not heard from him in
four long days.
All the while, the news was raging about all of
our poor service men and women being killed.
It was 3am in the morning, and it
was thundering and storming outside like crazy.
The storm reflected what was taking place emotionally
inside me. I was sitting at the kitchen table drinking
coffee, when a flash of lightning revealed something
tiny and white and absolutely drenched to the bone.
It was a kitten, approximately four months old,
sitting on the window ledge. I grabbed a towel
and went outside. She let me gather her up and I
brought her in and dried her off. She wasn’t scared
of me at all. I fed her and she laid in my lap until the
dawn broke through the darkened sky.
She was home.
What had started out as a very sad and very hard
four months of her life…was to be replaced with
lots of food, lots of warm blankets, and lots of love –
even if there were three other cats vying for attention,
and three noisy and cat-loving grandbabies. 🙂
I cannot explain it, but that night when I was drying
her off and cleaning her wounds and feeding her –
I felt a peace come over me.
I knew it was God. I knew He had sent me a sign
of life to let me know my son was okay.
I trusted His word and I clung on to it for another
48 hours. My son finally called to say he was okay.
He was sad.
Some of his men had been killed, so his base had
gone into shutdown mode.
To this day, Baby Lily clings to me like a child.
She runs down the sidewalk to greet me when I
come home. When I am sick, she lays by my side.
And she isn’t happy unless she is laying in my lap.
Our cats have taught us many things in the past 19 years
since we became #CatParents.
1) Surround yourself with happy people.
Even furry ones.
🙂
2) It’s the little things in life that make
you feel good.
Cats will entertain you and make you happy, even when its
been a really bad day.
3) Sometimes your soul needs a hug.
That’s what a kitty purr does.
4) There is love all around you if you
stop to feel it.
I LOVE those “Head Butts.” AKA a Kitty “Hug.”
5) Be silent and listen to what is around you.
Those “feed me” meowing sounds won’t go away until
there is food in the dish!
6) The best gifts aren’t always the best gifts.
You learn that the headless bird that was dropped
off at your feet is meant as a sign of love.
7) It’s always better to make amends.
Quickly!
The pile of poop in your new designer shoes means
“I am REALLY mad at you” and you better fix it.
8) Unexpected things can fulfill your life.
We were not “people” until we brought cats into
our lives. We just existed.
9) There is joy in giving.
And feeding. And cats demand a LOT of feeding.
And being finicky eaters, you NEVER give them the same thing twice
in the same day. NEVER!
Which is why we love Fancy Feast.
Lots of flavors at affordable prices.
We like to buy these convenient 24-packs.
Every delicious Fancy Feast selection is made
with high-quality protein sources and ingredients.
10) Even when life gives you poop, you smile anyway.
Cats poop. And poop. And poop.
Why?
See #9.
🙂
We love our new Litter Genie from Target.
With Litter Genie, they poop – you scoop,
you drop in the litter clumps, then pull the
handle to seal in waste and odors.
It is compact and light-weight and the odors
are sealed away for up to 14-days per cat.
All of our cats had to come and check out the new addition…
But, I think it was BooBoo who fell in love the most…
“I’m gonna love you and hug you and squeeze you
and call you George!”
You can take advantage of a special offer that
Target and Fancy Feast have going on
through 04/11/15.
Buy any two Fancy Feast 24 pack, or
Litter Genie/refill pack and get a free cat toy
or Friskies party mix cat treats while supplies last.

Barb, awesome post! Baby Lilly is adorable (as our your other fur babies). How you feel about her, is how I feel about my Sadie. She came into my life right when I needed her, a week before my surgery. I truly feel she helped me in my recovery!

View CommentI love cats and have two. We lost a cat that we had a very, very long time. I went to the Animal Shelter to look for another cat. All the cats ran into a corner except for Gertie. She laid on her back and stuck her paw through the cage. I brought her home. She weighs about 17 pounds and is a beautiful calico. Most visitors to our home think she is fake until she moves. Approx. 2 years ago we adopted Lucy (Lucifer) from the ASPCA. She is also a calico but not as fluffy as Gertie. When Lucy wants food, she grabs my husband’s leg. Your cats are beautiful. I have learned a lot from my cats too.
View CommentAwwww I loved hearing about your Gertie and Lucy. I love how they have such distinct personalities. Thanks for sharing your kitty stories with me. xxoo
View CommentBarb—This post is just another example of why I adore you and your blog. I don’t comment that often but I read all of your posts. Your kindness and love for others shines in everything you write. I’m so glad your son is okay.
I have 4 cats and I’m a crazy cat lady myself. I just wrote a post about it this past week: http://savingmorethanme.com/2015/03/cat-lady-people
From one cat lady to another, is the Litter Genie awesome or what?!
Hugs,
Kimberly
P.S. I attract strays like moths to a flame.
View CommentWe are just “cat” people. Proud to hear from another “Crazy Cat Lady.” 😀
View CommentCute! I love your little cat faces. I have two myself. Used to have three, but our sweet old British cat Theo passed away. Still miss his little face. But I did paint a picture of him for myself so I can see him when ever I want. I chose some beautiful and haunting Chopin music to paint him on.
