I am at it again.
Making changes in our home, that is.
Each year, I start out with a list of DIY projects I hope
to accomplish in our home. I sit down with The Hubbs,
and we decide between the two of us what the budget allows.
I have to be reasonable, because well, we do love to travel, too.
(And heat. And eating. A cool or warm house is nice, as well.) 😀
This year we hope to be the “Year of Bathrooms.”
Just before the holidays I made some easy changes that would
get us through. Now, it’s time to make some real design decisions.
The Everyday Home Guest Bathroom Design
………………………………………..
If you have been following The Everyday Home for
several years, you will know that our guest bathroom has been
through at least three changes since we moved in over twelve
years ago. Here is soon after we moved in….
The walls were painted Wet Concrete by Ben Moore.
Later, we added more wainscoting and I painted the room
a dark chocolate to juxtapose against all of the crisp white.
I also added some Beachy accents and these bird prints.
Just before Christmas, we had the entire room repainted.
The chocolate was just starting to feel too dark and heavy.
I don’t know what it is about getting older, but I now long
for lighter and brighter spaces.
I had no clue what direction I would take the design in.
I didn’t have time to think about it. Christmas was right around the
corner and there was too much to get done.
Then, I ran across a shower curtain online and fell head over
heels in love. LOVE I say. 🙂
All of a sudden, a had a starting point to build from.
Here is how the bathroom looks today.
Spared down and ready for some decor love.
Isn’t the color fabulous?
The color is Maison Blanche by Sherwin Williams, the same color
I used in our Kitchen and Living Room.
A metal, white pitcher is filled with some Winter greenery
and snow-covered pinecones.
The cabinetry and trim work received a fresh coat of crisp white.
By the way, my fave trim color white is Ultra White Semi Gloss by Valspar.
The Hubbs added this barrel-style hardware which I adore.
I still love our huge silver-leaf mirror and don’t see us
getting rid of it any time soon.
I love this new Mercury Lamp Base with a Burlap & Nail-head Shade.
I bought this at Lowes.
Now for some of the ugly we have to address…
(What? You think life is all Hunky Dory at The Everyday Home?)
😀
This happened while the room was being
painted. The toilet tank lid got broken.
And while this waffle-weave shower curtain served us well,
it’s time to retire it.
But I do see some outdoor pillows in its future. 🙂
Maybe some new shower curtain hooks too? 😀
So – here is what I need.
1) Artwork
2) Accessories
3) Shelving
4) Window Treatment
5) Shower Curtain
6) New Faucet
Artwork: I am not sure what direction to go here.
This space tends to lean a little more formal, with the white wainscoting.
But, I don’t want to go formal so this will be a challenge.
Accessories: I think the bulk of the accessories will be on the
shelving I plan on installing over the toilet. This wall is perfect
for 2-3 shelves with baskets and stacks of white towels.
I recently found this wood “B” letter and I love it.
B = Bathroom , or B= Barb and Bill 🙂
Window Treatment: When we moved in, the previous owner had
installed a half shutter. It worked well, as it let in lots of
natural light and we never had to open or close anything.
But it was broken and shabby. I added an inexpensive blind
and a valance I had on hand just to get through the holidays.
I have to make some decisions here. What do you have in your bathroom
that provides privacy but also allows in light in?
Shower Curtain: This is what started it all. This beauty!

It’s a *Floral Swirl Pattern and I adore the color.
I can’t wait to see it up.
Faucet: Honestly, there is nothing wrong with the current faucet.
I may, in all likelihood just keep it. Depending on where our budget is
at the time. But, I have to say I love this one…
It’s what they call a *Waterfall Faucet and I love the looks of it.
But, I also like this one…
It’s the *Heritage Widespread Faucet and it’s completely
different in style from the Watershed Faucet.
Accents: I already have several rugs to choose from, and I even bought
this cute soap dispenser.
So, that’s the “plan.”
At least for now.
Tomorrow when I wake up, who knows what it will be.
😀

I love the shower curtain. It’s a great inspiration piece! I know you’ll figure out the details and can’t wait to see what you dream up. I broke the tank lid to our powder room toilet when I was painting it, too. I super disappointed to find out you can’t just go buy a replacement one. I have glued it for now, but every time I go in there my eye is drawn to that big obvious-to-me crack! I’m thinking about trying to cover it with a mosaic to match the peacock color theme in our powder room. I’m thinking the ceramic would have to be scuffed up a bit to hold the bonding agent. Worst case scenario I totally mess up the tank lid and we go buy a new toilet. Right?

As I was entering my guest bedroom reveal onto the party, I noticed your guest bath and had to stop over. I must admit that this latest is my favorite of all. Looking good!
